Rising Stars: Meet Gaby Ancell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gaby Ancell.

Hi Gaby, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always loved flowers from a very young age. My grandmother had a beautiful rose garden, but the scent of her jasmine and love for tulips really drew me in. My personal favorite flowers are sunflowers and gerber daisies. I would always pick through bouquets at the supermarket and design my own ensemble. I think that part was my favorite part—being creative and finding joy in the finished outcome. How we started Jules Flower Truck is a two-part story. My husband, Justin, has always loved Volkswagens (old not new ones) and my daughter, Jules who we named our company after, has always loved both flowers and Volkswagens. She is our inspiration for our endeavor into this business. She has the kindest heart and always is thinking of others first.

So when we debuted in Parker, CO on Valentine’s weekend Jules was right beside me sharing our passion and vision of putting together a bouquet that the customers wanted. Our whole flower truck is filled with beautiful flowers & greens to choose from; and they pick what they would like and I put it together. And if you have no clue where to start, I help guide you through the process.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I think starting and owning your own business is never a smooth road the whole way. It definitely has had some learning experiences along with it. Weather, car maintenance and the quality of flowers and how we take care of them has been a learning curve. But, with each step I have learned something new along the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love talking to people and seeing what brings joy to their life, for me my kids, family, friends and flowers have always been my source of joy. One of my good friends gave me some great advice about developing a small card that included instructions on how to properly care for your flowers, and I decided to also have the ingredients for the flower food (that small packet of white powder included in a bouquet from the supermarket) on the back. I want my customers to be happy and for the flowers to bring joy to their homes, or to their friends if they buy them for someone else. If you aren’t satisfied with your bouquet, I’d love to make that up to them and give them what they are wanting. And I’ve found that if I step out of my comfort zone I actually am more pleased with the bouquet I put together than one I may naturally gravitate to. We are in the people business, and I just want to bring joy and positivity to people.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Be prepared and plan ahead. I have always been a planner and organized, but preparing for the unexpected is what I think has helped me out the most. You never know what you may need or run into along the way. Think of every possible scenario and then plan for it.
