Check Out Aubrey Mable and Kathleen Hooper’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aubrey Mable and Kathleen Hooper.

Hi Aubrey and Kathleen, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started in the fall of 2012, studying abroad in Dunedin, New Zealand.

It took us approximately five seconds to realize we were going to be the best of friends. We met as juniors in college, fell in friend love, adventured around that beautiful country, and started building the foundation of our friendship. We sang cover songs together in our cold NZ flats, on front porches, and in the kitchens and living rooms of friends and family. “Rivers & Roads” by The Head & The Heart was the only song we knew together for a long time. And we played it over and over and over.

Over the years we talked about our dreams of traveling the world and pursuing music. It always seemed like a distant possibility. What started as late-night kitchen jam sessions, open mics, and groovy covers turned into original tunes that sparked a musical connection we couldn’t deny. When timing and the stars aligned six years later, LVDY (pronounced LADY) was born.

In the last few years, we have seen this project soar to heights we could have only dreamed of. From street corners to bars to backyards to weddings to living rooms to jungle bungalows in Mexico and even to Coors Field. From opening for bands like Joseph, Rising Appalachia and LÉON to our own sold-out shows to our first (and then second, third and fourth) tour around the US, to our first festival and beyond. We had a lot of momentum rolling into 2020 and we both quit any other side project jobs we had to focus on LVDY. We proclaimed, “2020 is our year!!!” We all know how that turned out *laughs*. The pandemic forced us to get creative with how we were sharing our music in a live setting. We put together several “backyard tours” through Denver, playing up to 7 backyards in one day. As we are still figuring things out as independent artists, we have felt so loved and supported throughout the whole journey.

We recorded our second record tucked away in a cabin outside of Buena Vista, CO in November of 2021 and we can’t wait to share the next evolution of LVDY with the world. We are so lucky we get to continue doing what we love!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
COVID forced us to get really creative with the way we were sharing our music in a live setting. We were literally incapable of doing our job – bringing people together into intimate spaces to share music. The other biggest challenge for us has been learning the ins & outs of this business. As independent artists, almost everything we’ve done has been self-funded, self-booked, self-marketed, self-executed, etc. We’re learning by doing and it’s been one heck of an adventure. The foundation of our deeply rooted friendship has allowed us to know and understand each other well, evolve and learn together, and always have someone rooting for one another. We take on each challenge together.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We are a musical duo known for our ability to engage and connect with a crowd. We write music based on our own personal experiences in relationships, nature, life, and what connects us all. We pride ourselves on our authenticity and our ability to invite others into a safe space by showing up exactly as we are. We love to share stories and experiences, invite our audiences in, and leave people feeling uplifted and loved. Sharing our music brings us more joy than anything else in the world.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
We’ve learned that connection is more important than ever. We’ve also been reminded how powerful music is in healing and that it is a universal language we all speak. We have learned how adaptable we are and also how many people want to support live music in any capacity they can!
