Check Out Lady Los Productions’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lady Los Productions.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a recording artist, performing artist, and owner of a sustainable clothing company. I just released a mini album with my good friend Nick Moulds aka Deep Breath Beats called NO SHADOWS. It is a 4-part mini album paying tribute to the foundations of my life while creating space for my dreams/future.

About my life, I grew up singing with my family at home and at church. Everybody sang…nuclear and extended family. They made us go to church four times a week, so I sang there too.

It is where I really learned how to use my voice through singing lessons with Akia, our church choir director.

I have lived a few previous lives.

Firstly, outside of forced churchgoing, I was an athlete.

Then I was an educator and coach.

One day in 2019, after years of working on the staff of a private 6th-12th and performing when my schedule allowed, I decided to quit my job to pursue art full-time. I felt called to practice what I was preaching to my students and athletes and I went for it full on.

Now I am a performing artist and the face of Gentleman Quinn’s Blunt company. I write and perform as Lady Los. I own a sustainable clothing company, Lady Los Productions. I own my own record label, and I’m my own publisher.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel like so much of my creative process comes naturally to me and I am so grateful for it, but the road is still not smooth.

I’m still learning every day. The journey is not finished. I am still finding my way, but I trust and love myself more than I ever have in my life.

I didn’t always feel this way, but I now believe that the obstacles are what really shape us into the master navigators of our own life. That doesn’t mean I go looking for heavy lessons but I am grateful for what the heavy lessons in my life have shown/taught me.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I write and perform original psychedelic R&B. Just as I create and release 1 of 1 music, I also create and release 1 of 1 clothing. My clothing is my interpretation of merchandise for my music. The horrible imprint that major fashion companies leave on the environment must be brought to awareness and changes must be made before the impact is irreversible. With that in mind, I founded Lady Los Productions in 2020 and I personally upcycle my entire inventory. The few times you see an item I sell that is not upcycled, the item is created in a limited edition run and there is absolutely zero waste. My minimalist design meets tie-dye style comes from love and all styles are everyone. Gender is a spectrum, I do not abide by the binary. My clothes are for everybody.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love how for me growing up in Denver meant I had everything a big city had to offer but at the gateway to the most beautiful mountains. The balance between the wild and the organized. I love that we get every season here. Autumn is my favorite. I love the music and entertainment culture that has come out of Denver. I was partly raised by late CCD professor Yvonne Frye who taught me about Black History in Colorado and knew at an early age that Five Points was once known as “the Harlem of the West.” It made me proud and made me feel like that spirit of creativity and musicianship was in me too. I chose the name Lady Los as a tribute or paying homage to Lady Ella and Lady Day, a few of my inspirations from the jazz singer era in general. Lastly, I love that cannabis culture has always been a part of living here and that the culture predates my existence.

I least like capitalism, white supremacy, and the effect they in tandem have on this planet.
