Check Out Mikayla Robertson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mikayla Robertson.

Mikayla, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
When I was pregnant with my daughter, I took engagement photos for one of my best friends. I had a nice camera that I used solely to document my dogs on the hikes we went on. But! She asked me to take photos of them for their Save the Dates, so I decided to try! I had so much fun–directing them, editing the photos after, and then hearing about how much they loved their photos! I honestly couldn’t believe it, especially because I never really considered myself a creative person.

From them, I continued to ask my other friends to let me take photos of them. Truly, I had so much fun and I was so thankful to have a creative outlet that I decided I was going to start a photography business. I created my website, wrote my copy, and started my Instagram while I was on maternity leave with my daughter. It was definitely a lot to juggle with a newborn and adjusting to a new normal. I just made sure to put in the work while she was napping–often on my chest–and I was able to get it done.

Since then, I have been in contact with the coolest couples that find me on the Internet, Instagram, or TikTok. I just feel so grateful because they are all amazing. They all have different stories and it’s such an honor to be able to document one of the coolest days of their lives. I don’t take this lightly. I’ve known the power of a photograph since I was a child. Being able to preserve memories is such a special thing and I love it so much.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
To be honest, I haven’t had many issues through it all. COVID was weird for everyone but I was fortunate and only had reschedules to the next year. My year ended up being filled with outdoor elopements & tiny celebrations. I think the hardest thing I’ve had to figure out was just a work-life balance because the reason I do anything at all is for my daughter and my dogs. Yes, I love being able to document all of these special moments for these really cool couples but I want to document my own moments and I want to experience cool things with my family too.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a photographer in Colorado and I specialize in couples photography. I photograph weddings, elopements, and all kinds of sessions. I specialize in outdoor photography and pretty places. I think I’m known for being able to beautifully capture a couple’s connection and the amazing scenery while doing justice to both. I am most proud of the galleries that I deliver, I really take pride in the fact that when couples get their galleries back, they see *them*. There are lots of amazing photographers in Colorado but I think my epic locations and colorful editing style sets me apart from others Error! Filename not specified.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I’m a people person who romanticizes everything ha. I think this helps me beautifully document two people in love and the people who love them!
