Daily Inspiration: Meet Jourdan Kovaly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jourdan Kovaly.

Hi Jourdan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My career in Real Estate is ever-evolving, as is the case with all things, I suppose. I have been a Realtor for four, going on five years now. It is weird to think about, I got busy learning how to be a realtor and looked up and years had passed. Real Estate is in a constant state of flux, it is always changing. That is the thing I love about it, as it doesn’t get boring. It is also the challenge of this industry to stay sharp and determined even with the ebb and flow of it all.

I started in Real Estate at the behest of my managing broker and father, David Cox. I had finished my degree in Education with the only certainty being I did not feel called to teach middle school English. He told me, “Jourdan, you will be exceptional at real estate and your potential has no limitations. Give it a shot.” I had three small children at home, a husband who worked long hours, and a dire need to earn more income, but I wanted the opportunity to be present for my babies. I am very grateful for my husband and family, they gave me the courage and self-confidence to go for it, overcoming the fear and self-doubt of starting something new. I studied real estate at night while the kids slept and finished a nine-month program in three months.

After getting my license, I learned slowly, absorbing information and learning something new each deal. I have always loved being around people, quickly realizing the social, engaging nature of real estate was perfect for me! Real Estate is purposeful for me, it has given me the ability to use my skillset in an impactful, beneficial way. The Cox Real Estate Group is wholly dedicated to the well-being, success and long-term outcome of each and every client. Being part of something like that has given me a self-assurance and professional purpose. I have been able to garner success in real estate because of the purpose it gave me. I tell those who ask me for advice when starting real estate, “don’t do it for the money, do it to help people.”

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Has the road been smooth? Not by any means, but I have recently come to the place of being grateful for the struggles. I know that sounds obnoxious, but it is only because I have seen the light at the end of the tunnel that I’m able to feel so optimistic. When learning real estate, I had this self-imposed notion that I “should” know it all. It took me years to talk less, listen more and know where to find the information. Typically, the source of information was my Dad. With his 25+ years of experience, there was rarely if ever an occasion that he didn’t have the answer and a helpful anecdote to help me solve the problem.

In 2020, real estate was the most active it had been since I had started. The kids were off due to the pandemic, and we were working to keep up with at one time between seven and ten deals a month. I was beyond excited but also fairly drained trying to effectively manage each deal and be home with the kids while they did online schooling. I was also trying to control pretty debilitating migraines I get as a result of a car accident. This really pushed me to seek refuge in being organized, compartmentalizing and working as a team with my dad and sister. What I found when we leaned on each other was that real estate became more fun than it ever was before and we were closer as a family for it. We were able to work collectively to help clients, and more importantly, I had developed a better sense of understanding with what others were going through. I am grateful, even if it came about through a struggle to have the ability to connect with others in a real way.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
The Cox Real Estate Group is a family-owned boutique real estate firm. We specialize in all of Metro Denver and most of the mountain towns. When I started, it was David Cox (my father), Chelsea Thomas (my sister) and me. The company has since grown, but I am most proud of the business we have built as a family. I am honored to work with such wonderful, brilliant people who teach me every day to be a better realtor and a better person. My sister is a stellar realtor and real estate attorney who has taught me so much. The thing that sets us apart is that we are a very close family that will treat you like family.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
The best thing about Denver and the surrounding areas are the views and that no matter which city you pick, there are great places to walk and be outdoors. Colorado has unrivaled views across the state. I would say the thing I like the least is the lack of affordable housing options, but at the state level, they are taking measures to increase housing density like the approval of more ADU’s and building large apartment buildings. Homeownership and home security should be attainable for all Colorado residents.
