Meet Allison Mae

Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Mae.

Hi Allison, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Like the best things in life, it all started with a dog. I got my first dog, Kip, during my sophomore year of college and he was the catalyst for my now dogcentric life. I’d always loved photography so I was constantly taking photos of him, documenting our adventures and posting them on his website (this was in the dark, pre-Instagram days of the internet).

After graduating from college, I worked a series of uninspiring corporate jobs and always dreamed of finding a career where I could put all my creativity to use. One day a friend showed me professional photos she had taken of her and her dog and it completely blew my mind. I had no idea that dog photographers actually existed. That’s when I knew I had found my calling.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s definitely had its ups and downs. I’ve always naturally gravitated towards being an artist first and an entrepreneur second. So learning how to run a business and all that goes along with it has been a steep learning curve (one that I certainly haven’t mastered), but it’s definitely been worth it!

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a photographer who specializes in pets. The majority of my clients are dogs and their adoring humans.

I think what sets my work apart is that I encourage my clients to think about their entire photo experience as memory-making. Like, this is something fun you’re going to do with your dog *and* you get amazing photos to remember it by. I really listen and understand what my clients love most about their dogs and then incorporate that into their sessions (whether that’s simply hanging out at home or going for a hike). Working with clients in this way allows me to create photographs that are rich in personality, play, and emotion. All of the things they love most about their dogs.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
If you’re interested in working or collaborating with me simply get in touch via my website (below). The best way to support my business is to tell your friends! Word of mouth is crucial and I’ve been lucky to have worked with some of the most amazing clients thanks to referrals.
