Today we’d like to introduce you to Rose Dernburg.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
How I started? Well, one day I decided to participate to a modeling audition and I fell in love. I was always told that I should be a model because of my long legs but I never went that route because I didn’t feel, see myself being part of this business and that I wouldn’t fit in because of my height, weight and features in general, but I decided to do the big jump and since then I never regretted it. As for the acting, that was kinda an accident. Someone motivated me to go try out an audition and I got the role and since then, I also didn’t stopped the acting. I would audition and be cast in several productions. I did things backward. I started out acting while I self-taught myself the craft of being an actor. And now I am currently taking some classes on a deeper level to hone my skills. Motivation is how I got to where I am. Nobody could unmotivated me. I felt unstoppable. I worked a lot on my skills, whether it was at home or in the audition room, I never stopped practicing my craft.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Building yourself is always a struggle because you don’t know where to start or who you can turn to. This business can be cold if you are surrounded by the wrong people. But no matter what you gotta keep on moving forward and never stop growing yourself. Struggles are what make a person. I definitely had some struggles or more should I say rejections, whether it was a modeling or acting audition and you don’t get the callback, or you wait for a confirmation email that never happened or any confirmation that you will be part of the production, and let’s not forget the drive time from your home to the audition location (I used to drive one hour just to show up). But that didn’t stop me, it made me a stronger person.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an actress/model. As a model, I specialize in a variety of sets, whether it’s high fashion, street, boudoir… I also walk the runway for different designers and productions. As an actress, I don’t really have a specialty yet. I’m trying every genre that I can but I am leaning more toward the comedy type. I am currently taking some acting classes on a deeper level to have a better understanding of the craft while applying for some auditions and auditioning for different parts.
I am mostly proud of my debut as an actress and model because it’s always hard to go out there and pursue your dream. I did it and I won’t let it go until I fully make it.
I would say my good moods, no matter the temperature or the weather I’m always full of energy and am always ready for the day. No matter how hard it get I always pull myself together and make it happen.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The advice that I have is, once you start never stop. Don’t let others unmotivate you, have that hunger of wanting more and don’t be afraid of failure. The more you fail, the more you learn because it’s not about how many times you fall off the wagon that counts, it’s about how many times you get back on that wagon. The impossible is not me. The impossible is not you. The impossible is not us.
