Check Out Roz Reynolds’ Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roz Reynolds.

Hi Roz, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I am originally from Boise, ID, and have always followed what interested me and what aligns with my values.

Throughout my journey, I have lived in a number of different places and met amazing people. When I first started working for Wyssen Avalanche Control, I had to hit the ground running. I now reside in Boulder, Colorado, and feel stable in my work. I got to where I am today by putting myself out there and trying new things.

I am where I am today through supporting people in my community and being supported by them. Starting a small subsidiary in the US, I had to work hard and grow a lot. I had to be able to appreciate feedback from others and learn from people who had done this before me. I came into the avalanche world with very junior avalanche knowledge and was lucky to be surrounded by resources and support. I believe we can accomplish more as a team than as an individual.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I wish I could say that it has been a smooth road, but it has not. I have dealt with many challenges along the way and there are still bumps that I am working through. I am often the only woman in the workplace and have unfortunately faced unfair hardship because of it. However, because of this, I am more aware of discrimination and feel empowered to stand up when faced with similar situations. I am grateful that in general I feel very supported by people in my community.

I have made many mistakes along the way and do have regrets. But I see this as part of the process and a source for improvement. I hope to always be learning and growing in my career and as a person.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I work for Wyssen Avalanche Control, and we manufacture and install Remote Avalanche Control Systems. This is our specialty. We are able to locate avalanche terrain where our systems will be the most effective and work with clients to make their avalanche mitigation programs more efficient and safer.

I am most proud of the connections I have built with people in the avalanche industry, mainly departments of transportation and ski areas. What sets me apart from others is my ability to foster relationships and my commitment to the projects I work on.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Being able to build connections with other people!
