Today we’d like to introduce you to Drew Morgan.
Hi Drew, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started out as a performer in the circus – more of an apprentice, really. I cleaned the animal cages and learned all I could from the other performers. But I knew I wanted more. I took a train to New York and started doing open mics.
I got pretty good at avant-garde style stand-up – subway platform shows, nudist reviews, and hosting BDSM parties for rich people. The money was good but I craved a more traditional path. I’m not the type who needs insurance, but I needed fewer brushes with Russian gangsters if you catch my drift. I had a hard time breaking into comedy clubs there, so when the internet allowed for us to skip the gatekeepers I moved and developed my online following. It’s been this way ever since. Long live freedom.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, I wouldn’t say it’s been smooth. A man pulled a gun on me in Bakersfield once lol. I’ve been ripped off a lot and left out to dry. But it’s also been magical. Lovers, friends, and muses I’ve met along the way have been incredible. I’ve been poorer and richer than ever before. It’s been worth it, even if I can never go back to Utah.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a comedian. I’m most known for my quick wit and refusal to back down. I’m most proud of how I’ve never let cancel culture beat me. And that’s also what sets me apart, just ask the people of Utah.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
It’s all changed from when I started so I’m not sure my advice is relevant anymore. The internet has made it possible for anyone to get over it. It’s led us to some really talented souls who never would’ve had a chance otherwise.
Unfortunately, it’s also led to hacks losers, and fakes being able to hoodwink the good people of America, like that bastard in Utah. My advice would be don’t be a fake unless you’re really good at it and have no soul and want money.
