Today we’d like to introduce you to Georgia Grey.
Hi Georgia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After dealing with debilitating acid reflux, migraines, and joint issues during my years in college, I finally discovered Celiac Disease was the root cause of my seemingly disconnected health issues. Upon learning about my Celiac diagnosis, I became fascinated with food. I started questioning the ingredients I could not pronounce in my food, watched every nutrition documentary I could, read books, and fell in love with cooking. I realized I was spending all my time after work (teaching first grade at the time) studying nutrition. I felt it was time to put this passion to a degree.
While teaching first grade, I became a Certified Holistic Health Coach (INHC) through the Institute of Integrative Nutrition. I studied over 100 different dietary theories and learned about nutrition from various perspectives. Shortly after I graduated from IIN, strange symptoms appeared once again. I found myself with a large swollen pinky joint, brain fog, memory issues, body aches, phantom joint pain, and extreme fatigue. While I was gluten-free and seemingly “healthy” I still felt terrible most days. I discovered I was sick with Lyme Disease and other autoimmune disorders. You can read the full story here. I pushed my body too hard with exercise and ignored my intuition.
Although the process was difficult, I finally learned the importance of slowing down, following my gut, and getting in tune with the foods that nourish my body. My health has been a journey of whole-body healing. Holistic health and wellness look at the psyche, body, and soul-not just grams of protein and carbs. I started my business, Whole Body Healing Nutrition, in April 2017, and have been helping clients heal ever since! I say I work with people who don’t feel a well-autoimmune disease, Lyme disease, hormone imbalance, weight loss/gain, or just general inflammation.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Similar to when you begin a food journey, entrepreneurship is not always a linear path. Like everyone, the pandemic created many obstacles when launching a small business. I was set to move into my new co-working space in March 2020, which like everyone, forced me to pivot. As a result, I created three online courses, started seeing clients remotely (which I still do today!), and made a huge effort to expand my referral network.
We’ve been impressed with Whole Body Healing Nutrition, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As mentioned, I work one on one with clients to develop a holistic, and personalized food plan to help them heal. I help clients find the foods that work best for their bodies, plus develop new habits, break bad ones, and work on their sleep, mindfulness, and overall self-care. A recent development in my business, something that I am particularly proud of as of late, is the creation of my online course, The Nutrition Business Bootcamp. I realized that there are so many wellness providers who are amazing at their craft, yet struggle with running a business.
I created this online course for that person, whether they are about to start a business or are ten years into their business. I love helping creative and eager practitioners, and as a result, we can help more people if I can help people with the business side of things. This has been a huge passion project for me because as a former first-grade teacher and someone that majored in English, I felt super intimidated by a business. It’s so awesome to watch people step into their worth and power in business… and I love sharing “hey, if I can do this, you can do this too!”
Do you have any advice for those just starting?
Get out of your house or office and go meet people! It’s all about forming connections. People I networked with years ago still refer me to clients today. I would also say it’s okay to have downtime, and it’s very normal in the beginning. I also permit you to use that downtime to stop grinding and get out in nature.
You’re going to get your most creative, intuitive hits when you are feeling connected to the Earth, not when you’re banging your head against your monitor. There is always something to “do” when you start a business, and sometimes we need to do less, rest more, and take a break!
