Check Out Ethan Lee McCarthy’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ethan Lee McCarthy.

Hi Ethan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been playing music since I was 8 years old and in Denver venues (most of which no longer exist) since I was 16 years old. I have thrown a ton of DIY shows in this town-hundreds of them. These days I function more as an independent talent buyer in that respect (I book at hi-dive mostly) and am more focused on my music and art as opposed to putting on as many shows as I used to.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I wouldn’t say that. Capital is a big part of the struggle. Also, I felt like for the first part of my life Denver did not necessarily understand the kind of music I was making and It wasn’t until the last 11 years that things seemed to change for the better in that regard… which may have a ton to do with the influx of out of towners which subjected my art moreso to unbiased sources as opposed to the eggshell cowtown mentality of the past that I was subjected to. To be clear-i’m not saying it was bad when we were small but I am saying that the arts are thriving because there are more people.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I play in a band called Primitive Man, and another band called Vermin Womb and I release solo material under my birth name and the names Spiritual Poison and Many Blessings. I also create visual art under the moniker of Hell Simulation. more info here: ethanleemccarthy.com

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I have always had a close core group of friends with many acquaintances on the outskirts. I have been told I am outgoing but I do not necessarily feel that way and feel like I am just able to carry on a conversation. I have been focusing on music from such a young age that it is essentially all I have been doing for the last 30 years aside from things I HAD to do like school & work.
