Meet Nick Gromicko of InterNACHI

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nick Gromicko.

Hi Nick, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
We formed InterNACHI in the mid-1990s as there was no trade association for inspectors and no accredited training. Today we have 27,500 inspectors in the U.S. and we are a U.S. Department of Education-accredited school with a dot EDU domain extension. We have a 2-story house with thousands of defects built inside a 3-story building in Niwot. Inspectors come from all over the world to train on it and to get certified – www.internachi.edu

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The most difficult part was getting an entire industry (96% of all inspectors now belong to InterNACHI) under one roof, agreeing to take continuing education, and all using one standard of practice. It was like herding stray cats.

As you know, we’re big fans of InterNACHI. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
InterNACHI is the lone international trade association for inspectors of real estate. We have operations in some 60 countries. Our website is 280,000 pages long and it gets 36 million unique visits a year (that’s about 1 in 14 Americans visiting it).

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
Well, most of my bad luck: Growing up poor, dropping out of high school, getting shot through the leg, etc…. all turned out to be blessings.
