Today we’d like to introduce you to Avery Cox.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Dayshaper started as most bands do, with a group of friends that just want to play music together. Taylor (lead Vocal/Guitar), Dylan (Drums), and Avery (Background Vocal/Guitar) have been playing together since they were back in high school. Life took us in different directions for a few years and then back in 2019, We had lived out the dream of getting the band back together from our high school days. Except we didn’t have a bassist. Classic. And through lots of trials and searching the stars had finally aligned and we found Colby (Bass).
We first started writing songs in the living room of Dylan’s parent’s house. It got to the point where their living room was just a stage. PA system and all. The cops were called a time or two… The more we played, the more we wrote and felt that all our music was something we wanted to share with the world. we started playing coffee shops, breweries, and open mics acoustically and finally got our first full band show right before COVID hit.
During COVID we kept writing and when we were able to meet up again in person we hit the ground running and started recording at the one and only Doghouse Music Studios. Throughout this whole experience, we have been introduced to such a wonderful community of people and we have met some lifelong friends that we have been fortunate enough to play shows with. We definitely wouldn’t be here without all of them so for that we’re very grateful! It’s been a wild ride and we’re excited to keep this train going.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With this, we see this band as being in a family. We’re all great friends and when life happens, we all are here for each other when it does. Finding a balance between work, life, and band life is important and not always easy. But we always have each other’s backs when things come up.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We have a new twist on a nostalgic sound with heavy-hitting riffs and high energy to us that we hope shows we’re just having fun doing what we do.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
We all can come together through live music.
