Daily Inspiration: Meet Czechthemountains

Today we’d like to introduce you to Czechthemountains.

Thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
Tereza & Lubos Kopecky. We met back home in the Czech Republic and have been together since 2007. In addition to the love we have for each other, we share a common love for the mountains and spending time in nature. We are heterosexual meat lovers. We are not afraid of fats, carbs, and gluten.

Since Lubos and I both have issues with our knees, Lubos has a missing anterior cruciate ligament, and I went under surgery for both my knees, we are often recommended by doctors to do sports like chess and kayaking. But that doesn’t hold us back because of our love for the mountains and we will hike in any season! If it wasn’t for this common passion we wouldn’t have moved to British Columbia, Canada in 2013. We like to spend our free time wandering around and getting to know the beauty of BC.

We successfully completed two long-distance trails in America the Pacific Crest Trail in 2019 and in 2022 the Continental Divide Trail.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Success always comes hand in hand with obstacles. Without it, we wouldn’t even be able to appreciate the success.

However, we didn’t have any obstacles on the way that we didn’t know how to deal with. Anyway, we are still evolving and have a lot to learn.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are thru-hikers and we would like to become professional travelers and fundraisers in the future. Tereza also writes books about our travels and her dream is to one day translate the book into English so that it is available to more readers around the world.

What sets us apart from others? Our lifestyle is that we fulfill our dreams and are not afraid to take risks.

We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
We wouldn’t get anywhere in life without taking risks. And we are definitely not going to sit at home in safety just so that nothing happens to us. On our long routes, we risk life in the wilderness practically every day, and thanks to that, our experiences are much more intense and exciting.

In the Sierra Nevada mountains, we had to ford flooded ice rivers and traverse snow several times a day on our Pacific Crest Trail thru-hike. And I think that thanks to this extreme, this part of the PCT is one of our favorites.
