Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Rabun.
Hi Zach, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After homebrewing, beer school, and working at several other breweries, I got hit on my motorcycle. While spending around a year healing up, I was able to map out a plan to open Mockery Brewing. We were extremely lucky to find the RiNo neighborhood downtown when we did as the brewery has been able to grow with its surroundings.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Making an agricultural product in one of the most heavily developed areas in the nation through pandemics and recessions… what could go wrong? We have hit almost every imaginable difficulty, but we have been truly lucky in a lot of ways, too. We have an awesome staff that has remained with us for many years on average. They are the reason that we get through construction materials falling out of the sky onto the brewery, squirrel wars, and generally putting up with me and my bad ideas.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
Mockery has been more of an innovation lab than a brewery at times. We have the freedom to make the beers we would like to drink. For us, that means the best available local ingredients, exciting and nontraditional styles, and experimental techniques. While that might mean some tough days of picking dandelions in the sun all day or batch-smoking mountains of plums, it always produces truly tasty and unique brews that represent our awesome local terroir.
What do you think about happiness?
Making beer. Through making beer we have been able to develop some awesome friendships (Look for our 9th annual collaboration with Baere Brewing this spring), work with great people (shout out to our grain suppliers at Root Shoot Malts), and support many causes that we find important to our community.
