Meet Cat Bryant

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cat Bryant.

Hi Cat, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In November of 2022, Griffin Coffee was purchased by the Mainstreet Phoenix Project; a small cooperative focused on making small businesses and their small team members thrive. Over the last several months Mainstreet Phoenix, Griffin Coffee’s Manager, and Griffin’s small team have rebuilt the Griffin Coffee image and what it means to the community.

We brought in new coffee beans from the city-loved Queen City Coffee, Rebel Bread Bakery has been supplying outstanding pastries and Berkeley Donuts brings in the crowd on the weekends. At Griffin’s core though, what makes Griffin Coffee so loved, is its small team of four and the community that continues to support them.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like any small business, there is always a struggle.

The pandemic, new ownership, new management, faulty equipment, understaffing. These are just some of the struggles and bumps in the road that Griffin Coffee has had to navigate and do its best to come out on top. It was exhausting at times and by no means easy, but the continued support of the Edgewater neighborhood is what got Griffin through the hard times.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My name is Cat and I’m the Manager here at Griffin Coffee. While studying Product Design I started working at Griffin Coffee as a Barista. The longer I stayed the more I got to know the people of Edgewater and really get to know the ins and outs of the shop.

I took over management in May of 2022 and have been working hard ever since to make this place reach its full potential. In less than a year, I feel I’ve been able to really turn Griffin Coffee around with the help of my small team and our new owners, Mainstreet Phoenix Project. They’ve supported me through all the chaos and really made me feel like I could take on anything.

I can’t say there’s one thing, in particular, I’m proud of when it comes to my work here at Griffin Coffee. We still have a long road ahead of us, but I’m extremely happy with how far we’ve already come. The product, the quality of the product, the environment, the team, and the overall love of and for this place are what I’m most proud of.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
