Savannah Reynolds

Harmels on the Taylor is a ranch resort nestled on the banks of the Taylor River and surrounded by hundreds of miles of the Gunnison National Forest.

Harmels offers fly fishing, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, a bar and restaurant, and a coffee shop for guests from all walks of life. We can’t wait to welcome you to our little slice of paradise on the Taylor! Learn about the rich history of the property, dating back to the 1800s, to see why Harmels on the Taylor is a special place to so many people.

1800’s
In the late 1800s, when the town of Tin Cup was mining gold and silver, supplies were purchased from Gunnison and transported by pack mules. Because the trip took two days and Elmer’s Ranch, now known as Harmels, was the halfway point, it was logical that the small store was the overnight stop and the room above the store was used for sleeping.

1920’s – 1940’s
Around the early 1920s, Elmer’s Ranch homestead was divided in half to become Elsinore Cattle Co. and Elmer’s Ranch. Because of the beautiful location of the store, cabins #2 through #19 were added along the Taylor River. Elmer’s operated the ranch for many years and sold it in the mid-1940s to Ramsey, who modernized a few cabins by adding indoor plumbing. Ramsey sold the ranch two to three years later and it was again sold in 1958 to Bud Harmel.

1960’s – 2020’s
In 1963, Bud’s daughter and her family moved from Calgary, Alberta to help run the ranch. The Roberts family ran the ranch for nearly 20 years. Steve, the youngest son of Bud’s daughter, took over managing the ranch in 1979. He continued the Harmels family ranch until 2021 when he sold it to the Reynolds family. The Reynolds are committed to restoring Harmels on the Taylor to its former glory and are ready to welcome guests into the family.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With the transition of new owners, Harmels on the Taylor has overcome many obstacles over the last two years.

A new septic system, complete renovation of cabins, and rebuilding the Harmels brand have been just a few of the things that the Reynolds family has overcome. Their dedication to the Gunnison Valley and supporting local businesses is a testament to the thoughtfulness of the Reynolds.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve worked in the media field for over 4 years as a marketing specialist, and a digital publications editor for a bridal magazine based in the Rockies, and now I handle events and marketing for the ranch.

Life moves a little quicker working in a seasonal position, but the fresh mountain air, lovely people, and beautiful backdrop make everything easier.
