Meet CRLO

Today we’d like to introduce you to CRLO.

CRLO

Hi CRLO, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hey, I’m CRLO (car • lo) and I’m an independent Pop Punk/Alternative solo artist from Chicago, IL. With over 15 years of experience playing in bands, working in studios, songwriting/collaborating with other artists, and being a life-long performer, I brought my Midwest attitude and charm to Denver back in 2021.

My music career began as early as I can remember — I’ve always said it was my first language. I started singing at 4 years old and by the time I was 10, Santa got a guitar in my hands and I never looked back. By high school, I had become a multi-instrumentalist (piano, sax, bass, drums, etc.) and was spending any free time outside of my academics playing shows and honing in on my craft.

Right before heading into college marked the beginning of my production and engineering experience; I dove headfirst into GarageBand and Logic Pro X before finding my home with Ableton. This made the transition from playing in a band to a solo artist much easier as I attained the ability to self-record and produce my material.

Fast forward to today and in the 2 years I’ve been in Denver, I’ve become determined to make an impact in the music community in the 303. From a sold-out debut show at Globe Hall to underground coverage through Flora Fauna & LoHi Lifestyle Magazines to name a few, I can feel the momentum shift and am so excited for the next chapter.

Check out my latest EP release titled “Call Me When Your Heart Remembers” which that released on September 19th, 2023.

Follow me on all my socials (@crlo___) and hope to see you at a show soon!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Any musician can probably relate to the “struggle” that comes along with pursuing a creative field, but I’ve had so much fun so far. I’ve met so many cool people, made some lifelong friends, and have seen parts of the world that I wouldn’t have otherwise if I wasn’t a musician.

I’m a firm believer — there’s no progress without struggle. I’ve always seen it as a challenge rather than a struggle whenever an obstacle has come my way.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an up-and-coming independent solo artist from Chicago. Multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, producer, engineer and performer.

I’m known for writing sad, relatable songs and putting on a kickass live show. I’m most proud of taking the jump to move to Denver and leave behind my Chicago roots. Tapping into a new environment and scene is super scary.

What sets me apart? My sound and my image. You don’t see too many tattooed brown guys in the Pop Punk/Alternative scene and I’m here to change that dialogue.
