Community Highlights: Meet Dr. Dani Engle of Balance Chiro and Rehab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Dani Engle.

Dr. Dani Engle

Hi Dr. Engle, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.

First and foremost, thank you so much for having me!

My story, like most, is a bit of a journey. Growing up, my mother suffered from migraines and despite all the wonderful options the medical world has to offer, nothing she tried seemed to help. After years of minimal improvement, she decided to visit a chiropractor and began seeing results immediately! Her amazing results helped me realize I wanted to become a chiropractor and offer that same hope and life-changing opportunity to other individuals and families.

After receiving my chiropractic degree, my life-long involvement in sports led me to also pursue a Master’s in Sports Science in Rehabilitation. Little did I know, I’d end up weaving the skills from this degree into a completely different niche of chiropractic care down the road. A few years into practice, a handful of my athlete friends began starting families and turned to me for care for their little ones as well as during their pregnancies and postpartum. I was hooked! As my patient population shifted and grew, I began to notice how much of a juggling act it could be for parents to coordinate the process of making it to an appointment. Being witness to pregnant and postpartum women hauling in car seats, wrangling other kiddos, and/or visibly stressed about making it to an appointment on time ignited the idea of bringing the office to them. From there, Balance Chiro and Rehab (BCR) was born!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?

As I’m sure almost anyone who has started a business will tell you, the balance of work and personal life has been the biggest struggle so far as a solopreneur. Ironic considering the name of my business! When I opened BCR, I’d been a chiropractor for 10+ years and had great confidence in my clinical skills, but I had absolutely no background or knowledge in how to start, maintain, or manage a business. I just knew I wanted to help families by offering something different and unique. Life became a complex game of Tetris trying to determine where time and energy needed to be maneuvered. Patient care was the full-time, primary area of importance while any spare time was devoted to making sure the business, marketing, day-to-day admin, etc. were all being nurtured as well. However, I’m happy to say that after almost two years of shifting the pieces around, I have finally found the right balance!

Through this experience, I have learned that tough things are absolutely worth doing! That being said, some things are only worth doing if you are also able to maintain and grow the other important aspects of your life as well. While it grew my business to what it is today, it was a significant challenge to juggle working strenuous hours while maintaining other aspects of my personal life. Work allows us to contribute to those around us, which is incredibly important, but we also work so we can better enjoy life with the ones we love. Thankfully, I have a wonderful support system surrounding me and the struggles of the journey have allowed for a much deeper appreciation for the successes they have fostered.

Another important lesson I’ve learned along the way is the need to recognize and build on your strengths while seeking help for the areas in which you don’t excel. Like life, owning a small business will quickly humble you if you try to “do it all.” No one person has the answer for everything so finding community in others with different backgrounds and skill sets is the best advice I can provide both personally and professionally.

In retrospect, I’d say it’s been a wonderful rollercoaster of both trials and successes. I’ve been incredibly lucky in so many ways and could not be more grateful for my community!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Balance Chiro and Rehab?

Balance Chiro and Rehab (BCR) is so much more than just chiropractic! I, Dr. Dani, bring the office to you and your family with in-home care and eliminate the stressors of the typical appointment. Appointments are an hour long and I specialize in pregnancy, postpartum, and pediatrics and have additional training in Webster Technique, oral ties (tongue ties), Craniosacral Fascial Technique, dry needling, and prenatal & postpartum exercise and rehab.

During sessions, patients receive a detailed assessment, chiropractic adjustments, dry needling (when appropriate and necessary), manual therapies, and at-home recommendations. BCR is also unique in that patients also receive a follow-up email recapping key points, resources, and videos/explanations of any recommended exercises. Collaboration with other providers is also a regular component of my practice as it allows for continuity of care and ensures that patients don’t have to try to remember and then relay important information between providers.

Longer appointments provide more opportunity for in-depth explanations of the “why” behind a concern, a deeper understanding of what one can do at home to help themselves or their little one, and best of all… fewer appointments with better long-term results! I take extreme pride in offering a novel service based on the premise of helping families while adding a uniquely convenient and thorough spin on the traditional model of care.

What do you think about happiness?

As cheesy as it may sound, happiness doesn’t even begin to describe the emotion that my patients and this business model bring me! Every day, I am gifted the opportunity to improve how adults and babies move, feel, feed, function, and grow. This “job” offers me the freedom and ability to provide families with a quality of care that I’m proud of AND I get to help families grow & thrive in a way that decreases stress and optimizes their precious time. What could be better than that?!
