Today we’d like to introduce you to Agostina Zampieri.
Agostina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
After I graduated as an architect in my home town Cordoba, Argentina, I embarked on an adventure of a lifetime. 1 year on the road from Colorado to Argentina, visiting 14 countries in my ‘79 van that I converted myself. The constant change of scenery, the immense amount of free time, and a pen and a notebook in my hands were the beginning of my career.
After I finished that adventure, I moved permanently to Colorado and sold my first drawings online. A few months later, COVID started, we went into lockdown and I found myself once again with all the time in the world to create. During 2020, I produced a great workload of Colorado-inspired art, most of which is still selling to this day. Since then, I’ve been doing markets and art shows around the state and my work is in over 15 retail stores.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Taking this career path was something I’d never imagined. Everything was falling into place organically and I was just following my instincts and working very hard. This allowed me to stay present and trust the process, enjoying the journey and not worrying about the small steps back.
I’ve been growing slowly since I started and every step of the way has been a learning experience. Now, I find myself in a place where if I want to keep growing, I need help. The next challenge will be opening my little bubble, learning to delegate, and welcoming new perspectives and ideas to my business.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in highly detailed drawings, mostly using the stippling technic (all done with tiny dots) I started using ink on paper, and now I extended my work to murals and tattoos. I also like to experiment with how to transfer my drawings to merchandise. I have a line of drinkware and accessories and I am planning to launch an apparel line this year.
Everything is done by me. My work is inspired by nature, what surrounds me in the beautiful mountains of Colorado, and my travels. Drawing dot by dot allows me to pay special attention to all the details while maintaining an overall minimalist and elegant image.
My work is mostly monochromatic and full of surprises if you take the time to contemplate the particularities. It takes a long time to complete a piece and I expect to be discovered slowly.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Art has been part of human life since the beginning of time as a form of expression of beauty and emotional power. Art has been made by humans for humans, and it worries me that some people may think that AI will somehow hurt our industry. (I’ve had several people asking me at the markets if my work was made by AI!).
My work is done by hand, with ink that smears on my fingers, and paper that is rough to the touch in the tangible creative process that that takes a long time. I like to think that I am somehow contributing to keeping a craft alive, in a virtual world of instant gratification.
On the other hand, life in the mountains is so rich in some ways but lacks diversity and cultural heritage. In the next 5 years, I would like to own a studio where artists and creatives alike can come together to collaborate, inspire, and showcase their talents.
