Meet Margo Wells of The FestiviTea

Today we’d like to introduce you to Margo Wells.

Margo Wells

Hi Margo, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
We started the FestiviTea Company because we love sharing tea with others! Our business started as a catering company exclusively for festive tea parties. After the economic recession of 2010, we decided to restructure the company; with the focus on delivering the unique loose-leaf teas we served at our events.

Margo, a recovering engineer, (with more curiosity than one person should have) was fortunate to live and travel through various tea-centric countries. Jenny, a gifted and classically trained graphic artist (also a curious tea geek!), visually brings to life the character of each tea. The teas we curate from some of the world’s best tea blenders are full of flavor and feel festive – like a celebration in a cup!

In 2020, after one of our wholesale customers (a local tearoom) closed their business we decided to open a tea shop/room so our communiTea would have a spot to enjoy a casual cuppa. We also envisioned the space as a place to host local entrepreneurs for classes and to sell their products. We currently host over 20 local vendors for classes and consignment sales.

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Running a small business is one of the hardest things I’ve done, but it comes with immeasurable rewards.

After spending more than two decades working in computer systems engineering for the federal government, and earning a consistent, respectable salary I felt like just a cog in the wheel. I knew my work was valuable but it wasn’t a true representation of who I am and what legacy I want to leave behind.

Owning my own business, which I can authentically design based on my passions and the needs or desires of my community is very fulfilling. On days when revenue is low, I have to remind myself of the positive impacts our little tea company is having on so many others.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We curate unique teas that are full of flavor and feel festive – like a celebration in a cup – from some of the world’s best tea blenders! We offer wholesale, retail, and private-label tea products and accessories to a variety of other businesses and the public. We love helping our wholesale customers use tea to tell their brand’s story; we’ve found tea to be an excellent, consumable, and affordable product for our wholesale customers to offer.

Additionally, we host classes and experiences in our tea shop, sharing our love of tea culture from around the world. We also created the Little London Tea Society quarterly subscription box to expand our tea culture education to the entire country. Lastly, but certainly not least, we are proud that the items in our shop (other than tea and some teaware) are made in the Colorado Springs area. We feel honored to support these local makers.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
Either drinking tea with my Grandma Alfa or visiting my Grandpa Fred in Hawaii.
