Community Highlights: Meet Kelsie Bradford of Reckless Rose Beauty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsie Bradford.

Hi Kelsie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My name is Kelsie I’m 31 years old and I’ve been waxing for 6+ years now. I used to work for a big chain company and then eventually I started my own business 4 years after that. I thoroughly enjoy bringing happiness to people with this service, getting to know the people behind the client is one of my favorite things. Meeting new people hearing their stories and sharing mine helps build that bond in my business that I never want to let go of.

Knowing that these people trust me by coming into their homes coming to me and choosing me is such a big compliment. I know there are other options out there. And I appreciate the ones who stick to me out of loyalty friendship and quality of service. A passion of mine is helping people. I work as a caregiver on the side until my business grows further.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building my business after leaving a chain has been one of my biggest obstacles. I couldn’t take anyone with me when I opened up my own place so I had to start from the ground up. Referrals and new clients are always so special! I thought running a business was a lot easier looking on the outside than it was actually.

Throughout these 6 years, I’ve been through a lot of changes while running this business. I got gastric sleeve surgery 3 years ago from being morbidly obese (Drs notes not mine). 353 lbs as my starting weight and 170 lbs lost! Battling chronic pain and day-to-day life alongside building and growing this passion of mine. I love telling people about my weight loss and showing them my loose skin to help them feel more comfortable on my waxing table.

With them knowing that I am a safe space gives me so much happiness. My only concern throughout my job is, are you comfortable? Sounds kinda funny when I say that because I rip out body hair for a living. I’m so excited to grow and change with the people I’m providing these services to.

We’ve been impressed with Reckless Rose Beauty, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I somewhat already answered this in the past two questionnaires. But I’m a wax specialist who has specialized in waxing for at least 6+ years! I went to a small school in Aurora that didn’t give me much education and help that I wanted and needed. So I went to a big chain to help gain those skills, whoever worked at these places knows how hard this industry is. They treat you like robots and don’t look at you as a human being.

This was one of the big turning points for me, I never wanted people to feel the same way I felt working here. So I brought that same mindset into my business. I take things into account if I would like to be treated this way, and if the answer is no. I change and re-evaluate! Everyone deserves to be happy and comfortable in my presence and nothing makes me happier than seeing my people happy.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
At work, I like to turn on “Lo-fi” so I can still hear and understand my clients. Because normally the conversations we have aren’t light by any means. Haha, but what you tell me on my wax bed stays with me. Motivational podcasts, yoga, breathwork, and therapy are helping me become a better person and helping me support YOU better.
