Exploring Life & Business with Megan Reznicek of M.Lyn Creative

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Reznicek.

Megan Reznicek

Hi Megan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a master weaver, I am committed to leveraging my craft as a catalyst for meaningful change. Textiles, to me, are more than just interwoven threads—they serve as gateways to the expansive realms of history, politics, and economics, demanding a fusion of technical expertise, conceptual finesse, and utilitarian precision. As an artist, I aim to transcend visual aesthetics by weaving threads of interpersonal connection, community bonds, and professional support into every piece.

My journey as a creative professional has always been anchored at the intersection of cause. It began during my time as a summer camp counselor at a rural camp in Vermont, where I discovered my passion for teaching crafts and connecting with a community of young creatives. This experience ignited my determination to pursue my creative skills, leading me to focus my efforts on gaining admission to RISD during high school.

At the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD), specializing in Textile Design, I embarked on a diverse array of experiences that shaped my professional trajectory. From mastering the fine art of weaving and painting to delving into digital fabrication and binary code programming for complex woven structures, RISD provided a comprehensive education that underscored my desire to exist at the intersection of community, creativity, and cause. Additionally, my involvement as vice president of the RISD beekeeping club and my participation in the RISD Yogis and cyclocross team reinforced my commitment to these principles.

My career path led me to AFRIpads, the world’s leading social enterprise for reusable sanitary pads, where I contributed to product design, mass production initiatives, and the standardization of reusable sanitary pads in Uganda. This experience solidified my dedication to using creativity as a vehicle for positive social impact. Subsequently, I joined LAM Bolivia, a traditional Bolivian textile company, merging my design expertise with my cultural heritage in La Paz. Here, I deepened my understanding of traditional textile techniques while exploring innovative approaches to design.

Transitioning back to the United States, I pursued freelance opportunities in Providence, Rhode Island, engaging in photography, web design, and various creative projects. However, the onset of the pandemic prompted a shift in perspective, leading me to embark on a cross-country journey in a Ford Econoline van with my loyal companions—a cat and a dog.

Fate brought me to Boulder, Colorado, where I quickly found both my dream apartment and dream job within a remarkably short timeframe. For four years, I’ve served as the creative director of Madelife, an esteemed educational platform empowering young adults through customized creative education. Madelife’s mission resonated deeply with my values, allowing me to contribute significantly to its success.

Now, I am embarking on my most ambitious endeavor yet: the launch of M.Lyn Creative, a full-service creative agency based in Boulder. At M.Lyn Creative, we transcend the traditional agency model by becoming partners in transforming our clients’ visions into reality. With a team of independent creatives specializing in website development, photography, brand development, experiential marketing, events, and digital marketing consultancy, we are committed to making our clients’ creative aspirations tangible success stories.

Our mission at M.Lyn Creative is clear: we are more than just a creative agency; we are a force for positive change in the world. Driven by the belief that creativity has the power to transform lives and communities, we are dedicated to making a meaningful impact through our work.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Navigating my professional journey has been a blend of rewarding experiences and significant challenges. While I’ve been fortunate to pursue work that aligns with my passion for creativity and social impact, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. One of the most significant struggles I’ve encountered has been witnessing the profound challenges faced by the next generation, particularly in the realm of mental health and substance use.

As the creative director of Madelife, situated at the intersection of mental health and substance use treatment in Boulder, Colorado, I’ve been confronted with the stark reality of these issues on a daily basis. It’s heart-wrenching to witness the struggles of young individuals as they navigate these complex and often overwhelming circumstances.

Moreover, the ongoing battle to destigmatize mental health and substance use disorders remains a formidable obstacle. Despite progress in raising awareness and fostering acceptance, there is still much work to be done to ensure that individuals feel comfortable seeking help and accessing the support they need.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about M.Lyn Creative?
