Meet Zane Zeman of American Painting Specialists

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zane Zeman.

Hi Zane, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.

My story is similar to many of Denver’s young professionals, COVID made my job remote, and I moved from Florida to enjoy all the beautiful outdoors that Colorado has to offer. Although, after working remotely for about 4 years, I lost some of my sanity sitting behind a desk, alone, in my apartment. Thankfully, I have the best dog in the world to keep me constant company!

After realizing my complacency and isolation within my remote career was causing a decline in my mental health, I decided I needed to do something about it. I began learning about entrepreneurship through acquisition from an incredible group of like-minded, experienced, business owners and entrepreneurs.

Just under a year after joining this mastermind, I purchased my first business and became a business owner of a local Denver-based Painting company, American Painting Specialists. I am currently over a month in, and I am learning more and more mentally stimulated than ever. It’s a journey I am ecstatic about and thoroughly enjoying. And I get to meet new people, in person, everyday.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No doubt, it’s been a challenging road to get to this point. Going through the business acquisition process alone was an incredible learning experience but definitely had its hardships. From going back and forth red lining with attorneys, to battling contract negotiations with business brokers, and to trucking along through the gruesome SBA loan process. It’s been nothing short of overwhelming with a large dose of imposter syndrome. Not to mention, learning how to run a 36+ year-old business in a new industry! Thankfully, I am blessed to have purchased the company from a seller with great integrity and I have crews with incredible work ethic. We are staying busy as we enter into the exterior painting season and we are continuing to provide quality work and a professional painting experience to our customers!

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Denver is a vibrant community of arts, music, outdoor activities, and creative minds. Whatever lights your soul on fire, I believe you can find it in Denver! Except, for the beach… That is what I like least about Denver. We need an ocean and more lakes. Besides that, I absolutely love it.
