Meg Reidhead

Hi Meg, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My journey is a colorful tapestry woven with threads of artistry, exploration, and a deep-seated passion for creative expression. Growing up in the vibrant city of Denver, I was always drawn to the arts. My formative years at the Denver School of the Arts nurtured my talents and ignited a flame within me that would guide my path for years to come.

After graduating, I felt a pull to experience more of the world before diving into higher education. This led me on a journey of travel and self-discovery, during which I found myself immersed in diverse cultures and landscapes. When I eventually enrolled at the University of Michigan, I pursued a degree in philosophy with the intention of eventually attending law school. However, life had other plans in store for me.

Yearning for a return to my artistic roots, I found myself drawn to the vibrant creative scene of Detroit. Here, I immersed myself fully, working for a branding agency by day and embracing opportunities in the music industry by night. From assisting with music video productions to contributing to photo shoots for renowned artists like Wrekno, Griz, and Super Future, I was living and breathing creativity in all its forms.

Yet, amidst the hustle and bustle of Detroit’s creative whirlwind, I felt a subtle yet undeniable call back to my hometown of Denver. Little did I know this pull would ultimately redefine my career trajectory. It was here that I rediscovered my lifelong love for tattooing—a medium through which I had long expressed myself artistically.

Taking a leap of faith, I enrolled in a tattoo course taught by a seasoned Denver artist, embracing this opportunity to pivot my career toward something that truly ignited my soul. Over the course of a year, I immersed myself in the art and craft of tattooing, honing my skills and nurturing my passion.

Today, I am the proud owner of a thriving tattoo business, where I have the privilege of sharing my art with others daily. Tattooing, for me, is more than just a profession—it is a sacred practice of mindfulness, creativity, and permanence. Each piece I create is a testament to the power of self-expression and the enduring beauty of art.

As I reflect on my journey from an aspiring lawyer to a successful tattoo artist, I am filled with gratitude for the winding path that brought me here. I am living my dream, and I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to connect with others in a profound and meaningful way.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
My journey to becoming a tattoo artist has been transformative and filled with triumphs and challenges. While I’ve found immense fulfillment in pursuing my passion, it hasn’t always been a smooth road.

One of the most significant hurdles I’ve faced is navigating the transition from being predominantly self-taught to establishing myself within an industry steeped in tradition. Tattooing has a rich history, and breaking conventional norms can be daunting. Yet, I’ve embraced this challenge as an opportunity for growth and innovation.

Learning the intricacies of the craft has been a continuous process marked by trial and error. Each tattoo I create presents its own set of challenges, pushing me to refine my techniques and expand my artistic repertoire. Moreover, as I strive to discover my unique style, I’ve encountered moments of self-doubt and uncertainty.

Despite these obstacles, I remain steadfast in my commitment to honing my craft and pushing the boundaries of creativity. Every setback has served as a valuable lesson, propelling me toward mastery. I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and evolve as an artist, and I approach each day with a spirit of resilience and determination.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
As a tattoo artist based in Denver, Colorado, I am deeply committed to my craft and to providing my clients with an unparalleled experience at my private studio, Queen City Ink. Specializing in fine-line tattoos, I bring a unique blend of skill, creativity, and mindfulness to each piece I create.

At Queen City Ink, I operate under the guiding philosophy that mindfulness and a connection to the divine are essential elements in the tattooing process. I believe that by opening the heart and mind to these energies, we can co-create magic through art. My practice is built on a foundation of compassion, respect, and understanding, and I strive to make every client feel valued and empowered.

What sets me apart from others in my field is my unwavering commitment to putting my clients first. I see myself not only as a tattoo artist but also as an advocate for those who entrust me with their skin. By fostering open communication, collaboration, and trust, I create a safe and welcoming environment where clients can feel comfortable expressing their ideas and desires.

I am particularly proud of my dedication to trauma-informed care within the tattooing industry. Recognizing the importance of sensitivity and empathy when working with clients, I make it a priority to create a space where individuals feel heard, respected, and supported throughout their tattooing journey.

Ultimately, I am most proud of the positive impact I have had on my clients’ lives. Whether it’s through a meaningful piece of art that serves as a form of self-expression or simply by providing a listening ear and a safe space, I am honored to be a part of their stories. As I continue to evolve as an artist and a healer, I remain committed to uplifting and empowering those who walk through the doors of Queen City Ink.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
For me, success is not defined by a destination or an outcome but rather by the moments of fulfillment, growth, and connection that I experience along the way. It’s about finding joy and meaning in the journey, celebrating the small victories, and learning from the challenges that arise.

Success, to me, is the satisfaction that comes from knowing that I’ve poured my heart and soul into my work, regardless of the outcome. It’s about making a positive impact on others, whether through my art, my interactions, or my contributions to my community.

Success is also about personal growth and self-discovery. It’s about continually striving to become the best version of myself, both as an artist and human being. It’s about pushing past my comfort zone, embracing new challenges, and learning from my mistakes.

Ultimately, success is a deeply personal and subjective concept. It’s about finding fulfillment and meaning in life’s journey and recognizing that true success lies not in external achievements but in the moments of joy, connection, and growth we experience along the way.
