Community Highlights: Meet Lucinda Quattrochi of Salon SISU

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Lucinda Quattrochi.

Lucinda Quattrochi

Hi Lucinda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
Growing up in a small town in the Midwest, the salon was a central part of spending time with my mom. Every Friday in the summer, we would “go to the shop” so she could get her hair done. I would spend the hour running up and down the main street, in and out of all the stores, and back to the salon. When I was in high school, my mother was diagnosed with cancer, and I would take her to the salon after her treatments.

I saw how it not only made her feel pampered but it made her feel like herself again. It was like a reset and a place to reconnect with her friends. I ended up studying interior design in school. After working for a design firm for a few years, I started freelancing and painting murals and decorative finishes. I loved being a part of the creative process (I painted a mural in Jose Andres’s first restaurant in DC), but it was very physical and demanding.

When I started asking myself what was next for me, I knew that I wanted a creative field that was more social and stable and that I could gather a group of creatives as a team in a small business setting. The beauty industry checked all the boxes, and I had a great appreciation for its role in the community. I went back to school and got my cosmetology license, and 3 years later, I opened my first salon in Evergreen.

Salon Sisu is my current salon in Golden, which opened four years ago. Sisu is a Finnish word that the Finns believe to be the key to life, love, and success. It is my third salon and the one I am most proud of. Sisu roughly translates to extraordinary determination, hardiness, and strength of will. My career path has been challenging and has taken me in different directions, but the beauty industry is so dynamic that I have loved the ride!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Opening a business one month before the pandemic was certainly a challenge, but the biggest challenge has been adjusting to so many new norms. Building a strong team was so instrumental in executing my vision that it has taken a few years to hit that mark. It is always a work in progress, but I am finally achieving that goal.

We have a great team of stylists that includes a national educator and platform artist, a director of a beauty school, a national award winner who worked at New York Fashion Week, as well as eager young staff that are so hard working and talented. We have developed a training program to support our younger stylists and make sure we continue to provide an amazing experience for our guests.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Most of Sisu’s clientele are from the Golden Foothills and want natural, lived-in looks.

Whether natural gray blending, blonding, hair extensions, or a new haircut, we take an artistic approach that considers many factors. Placement of color, face shape, and skin tone all play a critical role in the Sisu consultation, considering what is most flattering for our guests and setting the stage for the guest’s experience. We take the artistry and lifestyle of our guests very seriously.

The focus on guest satisfaction and esthetic artistry sets Sisu apart. Our guests leave feeling refreshed and beautiful. We recognize that each guest’s experience is uniquely individual. Some guests want to feel bold, while others might just want to feel comfortable in their skin. We listen and execute! We are proud to be inclusive and celebrate everyone’s individuality.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Stay true to your vision! Vision is not static. It has been necessary for me to be open to input from others and be mindful of my employee’s viewpoint. Life is dynamic.

My vision to have a work environment that empowers staff to reach their full potential and to provide services to our community that enrich their sense of themselves is broad. How you get, there is always a work in progress because it is different for each individual.
