Today, we’d like to introduce you to Leah Drew.
Hi Leah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your back story.
My journey started at age 16 when I found out I had a pancreatic tumor the size of an orange. I needed major abdominal surgery that sent me down the rabbit hole of all the downfalls of chronic care in Western medicine. Physical pain, a poor mindset, and significant emotional struggles led me to be unhappy, unhealthy, stressed, and overwhelmed beyond belief.
I felt stuck and found myself suffering across many areas of my life as I navigated my college years. I lacked confidence & trust in myself, felt like a failure, was wrapped in toxic friendships & partnerships, was lost in body dysmorphia, consumed by unresolved childhood trauma, and was feeling unfulfilled by a life that wasn’t bringing me pleasure. I had lost my personal power, and it made me feel like the weight of the entire world was on my shoulders, and I was stuck at the bottom of a dark hole.
After graduation, I competed in a body-building competition, thinking that by changing my body, I was going to find happiness… I didn’t… I actually found myself face-to-face with suicide. What I did find through that journey was a reflection of my resiliency & perseverance.
I realized I could do anything I set my mind to. So, as I sat on the edge of a high rise in Toronto, contemplating ending my life, I found strength in choice. I chose to walk downstairs and hand my bag of junk food to a homeless man. I know it might sound silly, but the decision that day to CHOOSE a different path for myself set me on a journey of deep physical, mental & emotional healing.
I began looking at my mindset, my habits, and the things that weren’t making me feel good, and I slowly started making changes. Instead of seeing things in my life as having control over me, I shifted my perspective and realized that I always have control over how things are affecting me, ultimately realizing that I had the strength, resiliency & perseverance to change any experience.
As I started changing my thought patterns, looking at my past trauma that I brushed under the rug, regulating my nervous system, making changes to remove toxins & chemicals and live a more holistic lifestyle, and setting boundaries that honored my worth… my life began to change. My chronic pain & autoimmune symptoms started disappearing, my relationships with family, friends & partners started improving, my love for life started growing, and my desire to start a business to help others blossomed. It was through this journey that I realized I needed a big change in my life.
One of my favorite quotes by Hermes Trismegistus says, “As above so below, as within so without.” This quote helps us understand that what happens on a big scale in the universe is similar to what happens on a small scale in our own lives. It also shows us that what’s going on inside us, like our thoughts and feelings, is reflected in our outer world in our environment, experiences, and relationships.
Just like the Earth needs to go through different seasons to support life, we need to go through different phases in our lives to grow and learn. The cycles in the universe help maintain balance and create new opportunities, just as the cycles in our lives help us to rest, reflect, renew, and expand.
So, as I continued diving deeper into my healing journey, I started to feel like the environment I was living in no longer matched the way I was feeling on the inside. I craved deeper & more aligned connections, an environment that would allow me to step into greater levels of self-expression, and a life that set my heart & my soul on fire… So, I moved across the country the day before quarantine.
Over the last 4 years, I have immersed myself in the worlds of authentic relating, self-expression, conscious community, art & music, dance as medicine, psychedelics & festivals, and deep sisterhood.
Thought is a process. I have moved through many death & rebirth cycles (which will always continue) and have expanded into this POWERFUL version of myself who is confident, fully expressed, and self-aware. I no longer people please and fully honor my worth, and I have developed the most incredible community & sisterhood connections that help me rise & celebrate myself every step of the way.
Honestly, every day, I am completely in awe of my life. Full of so much pleasure, deep connection, intimacy, and in full alignment with my soul’s desires, not what someone else thinks is right for me.
Through this journey, I have come to the realization that our society programs us into living a life that makes us sick, disconnects us from nature (and therefore ourselves), teaches us to walk without our power, and leads us to live from a place of fear… all of which reduces our light & therefore our source energy.
And you might be thinking, “That sounds so woo woo”… well, here’s some science for you. Your source of energy comes from the mitochondria in your cells (the ‘powerhouse’ of the cell), which is what gives your body the energy for everything in your life. When you don’t have that source of energy, you can’t optimally heal. If you don’t have the power to heal your mind & body & change on the inside, you can’t lean into any changes in the external environment that allow you to have better relationships & create the life (and maybe even the business) that aligns with what you desire.
I am on a mission to empower people to holistically heal their minds & their bodies so that they can step fully into their power, reconnect with their most authentic self & create an aligned life that they fall more in love with every single day.
I work as a trauma-informed Mind|Body healing guide & women’s empowerment coach and host the Mindful Evolution Podcast. I work online, offering 1-1 mentorship and group programs (The Mind|Body Initiative is my signature online group program for women), and I work in person, offering ceremonial bodywork and somatic yoga, and I host co-ed community events & workshops in my home.
I focus on supporting women to rise in their power and re-connect to themselves because I believe that women hold the ability (newsflash: we literally create all of human life in our wombs) to help nurture the world around them back into connection to themselves & God/source/spirit so that they can rise higher & create a greater change in humanity & the world.
I have created a women’s community space in Broomfield, Colorado (right in the middle of Boulder & Denver) for conscious, co-ed community gatherings. Here, people can dive deeper into self-reflection, connection, healing & growth through things like entrepreneurial events, music jams, women’s circles, sound baths, cacao ceremonies, ecstatic dance, yoga & much more!
I love to inspire & connect with the community on social media, so come say hello and hang out with me there! I hope to see you at an upcoming community event in Broomfield!
Much love <3
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am proud of how I have fearlessly sought healing on my own journey, which has allowed me to help others with so many things, from pain management & movement to mindset to emotional regulation, relationships, and business.
What sets me apart from others is my ability to deeply support my clients while bringing lots of self-expression, authenticity, playfulness & fun into the healing journey. I am incredibly honest & vulnerable with my clients because by allowing them to see me in my challenges & experiences, they get to more deeply come to know themselves. I am an open book. And I always want my clients to not just feel like my clients, but also my friends… because in my eyes, they are!
Deep, intimate connection is what changes the world, and I’m here to share more of that!
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
To me, success is breaking outside of the box of societal programming, finding reconnection to yourself, finding oneness with God/spirit/the universe, and finding complete alignment with YOUR path, your purpose & your mission in a way that brings immense love, pleasure & a deep connection to the life that you’re living.
I think success is found when you find wealth in every single aspect of your life, not just financially but also in your physical, mental & emotional well-being, in your relationships, in your work, and in yourself.
