Today, we’d like to introduce you to Chanel Bee.
Hi Chanel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I was working a very corporate sales job during the pandemic, and my boss was very judgmental about my life outside of work. After being told that basically everything I did and that the way I lived was wrong, I decided to leave that company.
At the time, I already had some clients for my data entry and sunglasses business, so I felt confident enough to lean more into those. After a little marketing and a lot of word of mouth, I have now been fully self-employed since the beginning of 2021.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, but life would be boring if it was.
Managing cash flows for the first time was a huge learning curve, and some weeks, I worked seven days a week for 8+ hours a day. But I love what I do, and I will never look back!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So, I am a wearer of many hats. By day, I am a marketing guru, web designer, and substance use recovery coach. By night, I am Peachy Queen, an artist who makes upcycled festival fashion accessories and raunchy 3D-printed home decor. When people ask me what I am proud of out of it, it is being true to myself. I am way too spontaneous to end up doing any one thing for extended amounts of time.
And having all of these contracts and skills, I am able to express all facets of my being. I am a caretaker, so I coach people in recovery. I am creative, so I make art. I like helping other businesses, so I am a graphic designer. And build websites for small businesses. I get to choose every day which I hate to wear, so life is never boring, and I love that I have accomplished that for myself.
The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Never settle. Even in the chaos, you will be able to hear your heart’s true calling. Always follow it.
