Inspiring Conversations with Laura McDonald of Laura McDonald Fit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura McDonald

Hi Laura, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started working in healthcare after graduating with my Masters in Exercise Physiology, but during COVID I was furloughed from my hospital job and I decided to try to get my business up and running. I went to school for almost 7 years, but I never felt like any of the jobs I held in healthcare let me put my true passion into practice. I really wanted to use my education to help people learn more about their health and take control of their own care, but I found that it’s actually a little backwards. We do little as a society to educate and empower people in regards to their health and wellness. I saw the need for a more approachable and realistic solution, and I’ve made it my mission to make health and wellness not just a perk for the elite, but accessible for all. Today, we work diligently to help our clients understand the importance of moving their bodies, eating nutritious whole foods, and practicing a more intuitive and science based approach to fitness.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been challenging to prove ourselves in an industry that is saturated with many “experts”. The daily practices we are promoting are not flashy, exciting, or quick fixes; and sometimes that’s not what people want to hear. Adapting to a healthier way of living takes time, dedication, and lots and lots of grace. With that being said, we have the best clients who have stuck with us since the beginning, and that’s all the reassurance I need!

We’ve been impressed with Laura McDonald Fit, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a fitness and wellness business that promotes health through the life span. Basically if you have a body, you are an athlete in our eyes. We know that life gets busy and the first thing to go when you’re in the thick of it is your health habits. I’m a mom of three and I get it, time for myself is hard to get sometimes. We eliminate the confusion by assessing each client individually and we teach them how to utilize the time they do have in the most efficient way possible. By focusing on educating our clients, they are able to take the reins on all aspects regarding their health. Exercising, nutrition, longevity, and wellbeing are all areas we prioritize and emphasize. We are a team of exercise physiologists who have studied the ins and outs of the human body and how it responds to exercise. We offer personalized exercise prescription, functional movement assessments, nutrition guidance, cardio/metabolic coaching, and habit coaching.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I think we are already seeing a big shift in how people are prioritizing their health. I hope health care will follow the trend and we will start to see more emphasis placed on prevention of disease. With that hope I think we will see more jobs for other exercise physiologists like myself and my team.
