Conversations with The Curio Cabinet Magazine

Today we’d like to introduce you to The Curio Cabinet Magazine .

The Curio Cabinet Magazine

Hi The Curio Cabinet Magazine, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The Curio Cabinet is a female-owned digital magazine platform dedicated to providing genuine content to readers interested in fashion, music, lifestyle, culture and more.

A curio cabinet is a specialized type of display case for presenting collections of figurines or other interesting objects that invoke curiosity and perhaps share a common theme. Growing up, Co-Founder Abby Schirmacher’s mother owned a curio cabinet that was the focal point of their household. It’s where she stored her most prized possessions and unique collectibles. While today she is no longer with us, this serves as Abby’s inspiration to fill an internal curio cabinet with meaningful experiences, thoughts and perspectives.

We created The Curio Cabinet to inspire women like us to take risks and step outside the box. As women in our mid-twenties, it’s easy to follow the status quo and remain in a system that seems steady from the outside looking in.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Words have a powerful presence to anyone willing to absorb them and we make it our mission to not only tell the truth, but to also uplift and immerse readers and interviewees into all the beautiful ways we see them and to highlight their impact.

As an artist, advocating for yourself is often very difficult. The Curio Cabinet seeks to give artists confidence in their work through meaningful promotion.

The community we have built is why we have persevered with our dream. The powerful symbiosis between artists and their communities creates bonds like no other.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The Curio Cabinet is rapidly growing. After our launch in June 2023, we are constantly developing new ideas for promoting local and national art that fosters culture and equality.

The goal is to continue to grow our team and community through beautifully crafted stories and events. We aim to eventually transition into a media collective. Our current success is thanks to our decision to make this passion project a priority.

It is the idea of “we” as a community that helps our magazine run. Community is what makes our minds strong and supports us in accomplishing our goals.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
The job market for writers and artists is complicated. As seasoned writers, we started from the ground up to foster the energy that keeps our creative drive healthy and revolutionary.

Storytelling looks different nowadays since everything has gone digital. We know all too well about the fall of print media and journalism. However, we want to remain resilient and practice our first love of writing while uplifting our community and sharing their incredible stories. When we think of The Curio Cabinet, we want to revolutionize journalism and bring it back.
