Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Kinney
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in New York and moved out to Colorado in 2015. I had always loved helping friends with their design projects, and decided to pursue design professionally in 2017. I started working at West Elm in Boulder and quickly worked my way into their Lead Home Stylist role. This position had me on the road daily – going into a customer’s house, photographing their spaces and helping them visualize their dream home. After 3 years at West Elm, I landed a huge project for the Major League Baseball office in Boulder. That project went great and was so much fun, and I walked away from that feeling ready to branch out independently. I launched my LLC in January of 2020 and haven’t looked back!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Deadlines can be challenging when you work alone. Last summer, I found myself swamped with work. I was quite pregnant and had just purchased a new home that needed some love, and I felt myself getting behind. I decided to hire an assistant, Caroline Houlihan, and it was the best decision I’ve made since forming my LLC. She’s wonderful – creative, professional and always eager to learn. I now have a 10 month old baby boy and I never would have gotten my business through this past year without Caroline. I’m now very much back into the swing of working, but navigating pregnancy and having a baby while also running a small business was absolutely the biggest challenge I’ve faced.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Meghan Kinney Designs ?
I find great pride in providing the best client experience possible, and believe that putting people first is the gateway to great design. How a client uses their space, the “feel” that they are hoping to achieve, their most loved personal items – this is where I find my inspiration. One of the most important questions in design is “how do you intend to use this space?” Once we can answer that question, the design comes together organically.
Whether you’re looking for a living room refresh, to update your 1990’s wall niche, or to renovate your kitchen, we can help! We take on varying levels of projects from suggesting a few key pieces of art, to knocking down walls and building them back up!
