Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel Beals
Hi Daniel, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Once Covid started I was let go from my job. I told myself I wouldn’t work for anyone else again, and started figuring out how I could make money myself. I started doing handyman work, junk removal, car renting, really anything I could do to support my family. Later in the summer of 2020 a friend that was one of my top salesman called me and asked if I could remove his customers existing furniture, so they could deliver their new furniture.
After a year of checking in with that furniture store on a fairly regular basis and being their preferred vendor for removals. I knew I needed to narrow down what I was doing and focus on one business rather than 4 businesses. After evaluating all of my businesses for future potential, I realized one furniture store was referring me multiple customers each week. Starting in 2022 I only pursued furniture removal. I started using the same model of visiting furniture stores every week and increased from one store to 15 stores, to 30 stores, to now being the exclusive furniture removal partner for all 50 furniture stores in the Denver Metro area.
Its been an amazing ride discovering how to run a business, figuring out logistics, marketing, and hiring employees. We had amazing growth over the past couple years. We ended 2022 at $70K in revenue, to 2023 ending in $350K in revenue, to 2024 we are on track to end the year around $700K in revenue. We are now Denver’s number 1 furniture removal business and are continuing to grow. We currently have 6 employees and created a huge network around Denver where we can find new homes for all of the furniture we come across.
Dans Haul Away specializes in furniture removal and downsizing. We take all furniture, no matter the size, age, or condition. We go inside the customers home and professionally remove it all for them. Our goal is to find new homes for everything we come across and keep it out of the trash. We currently work with local donation centers, charities that graduate people out of homelessness, fix and flippers around town, and resell some items through a local auction house. We save around 75% of everything we come across.
We found that people have emotional connections to their furniture. Doing homework with the kids at the dining room table, watching movies as a family on their sectional sofa, and bedroom sets where they slept and made families. To date we have furnished over 30 families in need around Denver with amazing furniture. We are connected to them through local charities that help people out of homelessness. It’s amazing to keep all of this amazing furniture out of the trash. Seeing all of the amazing faces of the families we’ve helped, to our employees being excited to have an amazing purpose in our city. We continue to grow and find new ways to find new homes for all the furniture we come across.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Owning your own business is never easy. Everything relies on consistency and persistence. We’ve had struggles with employees, trucks, and creating processes. One of the more frustrating struggles we’ve encountered was when we purchased our first truck back in September of 2023. It was amazing!!! Finally we had our own truck. I made the purchase and drove it home. On the way home the check engine light came on… Not a good sign. The truck shop told me to take it to the shop and they would pay for the repairs. It took over 2 weeks to get the truck back. From there it was amazing! We had our own truck again. over the next 3 months it was in and out of the shop for odd reasons. Until Christmas of 2023 it went into the shop and I was told it needed a new engine!! Luckily I had a warranty for the truck. It then took 6 months to fix and get the truck back. I was so excited to have my own truck again. We got the truck in the beginning of June 2024 and had it for a month and back to the shop it went. This time it needed a transmission rebuild… Here we go again… While it is still covered under the warranty, it is a very lengthy process to get approval, then repaired. It is currently October and the truck is still in the shop. I’ve owned the truck for a little over a year now and it has been in the shop for nearly nine of those months. That has been one of our biggest struggles.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Dans Haul Away is a furniture removal and downsizing specialist. We are not your typical junk removal company. It is probably easier to tell you what we don’t take. We don’t take general trash, appliances, pianos, or pool tables. We take all furniture and household goods. We can also do special deliveries for friends and family, or in home moving of furniture. We are the furniture experts.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is playing baseball with my cousins. My step father is a twin and they were inseparable. That meant my brother and I were always hanging around our cousins and playing sports. There was always laughter, crying, and fighting. Lots of boys.
