Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamin Marshall
Hi Jamin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Music has always been the main driving force in my personal and professional life.
I started listening to my dad’s classic rock records at a young age. At 15 I discovered punk rock. My parents bought me a drum kit for my birthday and a bass for my brother and we started playing music together right away.
Music has helped me through the darkest times of my life, depression, two bouts with cancer, and the loss of my father.
In 2003, my brother – Jeshua Marshall and I started a band called Larry And His Flask. At first, it was a straight-ahead hardcore Punk band. But, as time went on we morphed into a 6 piece Americana Punk Band. With this arrangement, we Opened for Dropkick Murphys in Bend, OR (Our home base), which led to us opening for them and Strung Out on a cross-country tour. The highlight was playing The House Of Blues- Boston to a sold-out crowd on the first and last nights of their 7-night tour finally.
After that, we were able to get on Warped Tour 2011 for the whole tour. Which lead to us touring with Foxy Shazam, Lyonize, Lucero, Fishbone, and The Reverend Horton Heat.
Some of our big accomplishments with Larry And His Flask Include:
200-300 shows a year from 2010-2013
5 Tours of Europe
Many Tours of the USA and Canada
12 albums and 2 EPs
Warped Tour
Playing shows with some of our musical heroes
After Larry And His Flask stopped touring, I started working with my brother, Jeshua Marshall to help him put out his music and tour the US, Canada, and Europe. Jeshua has put out two solo records so far and is getting to release his 3rd.
Now that Marshall Musik is in full swing I am working with Punk Rock Saves Lives, Jeshua, and Tensas. I am getting ready to expand my online store and bring new artists and musicians on to my booking roster.
The future is bright for Marshall Musik!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No road is smooth all the way to your destination. In my case, I don’t think my musical journey will ever end. I love traveling, having adventures, meeting interesting people, seeing new places, making albums, and helping my friends with their projects. I am sure that there will be more difficult times to come but I am stronger because of them and we all just have to do our best and keep working towards a happier and healthier self.
From the age of 18 – 20, I had cancer twice and fought it with surgery and chemotherapy. This was a huge personal struggle that almost overcame me. Thanks to my loving parents, brother, and friends supporting me and helping me every step of the way, I survived and even played a couple of shows while I was being treated with huge doses of chemo. I have been cancer-free for 20 years. But cancer has taken some of the people I held most dear.
At the height of Larry And His Flask’s popularity, Jeshua and my dad died from cancer. This loss left us all reeling, as he was the cornerstone of our family and was the band’s biggest supporter.
After that, the band took a break and I moved to the Caribbean where I learned to work on boats, sail, and bartend.
We restarted the band and made one last album after I moved to Denver in 2017. We did one last US tour and EU tour.
LAHF had been a band for 15 years at that point, and there were many unresolved, inner band issues that wound up tearing us apart personally. LAHF stopped touring for good but all the members kept doing music in different projects.
After the band stopped, I got a job at a tire shop in Lafayette, CO. There learned how to do brakes, alignments, tire changes, battery swaps, and suspension upgrades. Covid hit and I got laid off from the tire place. I quickly found a new job building trailers in Boulder. Because of Covid the popularity of camping soared and our business took off. At our height, we were building 5 trailers a week.
After the COVID restrictions were lifted, due to a range of problems, Colorado Teardrops went bankrupt and I was laid off again.
At this point, I went back into the music industry. I started up my online store, started working with Punk Rock Saves Lives and touring again.
When my brother asked me for help in his new musical endeavor, I was ready to reenter the music world fully and realized how much I missed it. We put out two albums together and started booking shows across the states again.
It has been a wild ride and it’s not even close to over but I love art and music and having crazy adventures.
Our plans for the future include new albums, and tours of the US, Canada, UK, and EU.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Marshall Musik is a music management, online merch store, and booking company. I am a drummer and songwriter. When I am not working my day job I am booking tours, screen printing, creating art, managing bands, and helping with Punk Rock Saves Lives.
Marshall Musik specializes in working with independent/unsigned bands and artists who make original music.
Our focus at the moment is mainly on our online merch store: www.marshallmusik.com – where we sell records, shirts, and other goodies from our bands.
Marshall Musik does tour logistics, advancing and tour booking for Jeshua Marshall and the Flood (Oregon) and Tensas (Colorado Springs). We are looking to expand our roster and bring more bands into the Marshall Musik Family.
The last big tour that we booked was for Jeshua Marshall and Beans on Toast from England. The coast-to-coast tour spanned 2 months, 17 states, and 32 venues.
We work closely with Punk Rock Saves Lives – a local non-profit from Denver. We help them with tour advancing and we will be opening a new online merch store for them presented by Marshall Musik.
I am most proud of being a trusted and valued part of the international music community. Being able to help my friends succeed in a very challenging industry has always been a source of great pride for me. I do enjoy a challenge and I love building up new artists so they can get in front of the crowds they deserve.
What really sets us apart from others is our 20+ years of first-hand experience of touring all over this country, Canada, and 14 countries in Europe. When I look at the map I can see the roads that lead from town to town and venue to venue and I know the best route to send our artists to get them in front of the best audiences and establish them in the towns that will respond favorably to their style. Playing over 1,500 shows has given me the innate ability to understand the journey from writing a song in your bedroom to playing that song in front of 5,000 people at a street festival in Europe. It’s an amazing journey and I love being involved in it.
What does success mean to you?
My personal definition of success in the music industry is building and maintaining a loyal fanbase and artist clientele.
Making sure the artist who works with me can achieve their own version of success and happiness is what I strive for.
Traveling the world while sharing the music that I am most passionate about and helping to curate excellent albums and shows is an added bonus.
Being respected by my colleagues and having many albums and tours under my belt is the success that few musicians are so lucky to have achieved.
I am a very hard-working and dedicated person but, I fully appreciate that I am a very fortunate person to have been able to see the world through music and get to know and play shows with my musical heroes.
I am very lucky to still be alive through all my struggles and I cannot take the time I have for granted. Every Day is an opportunity.
Seize the day and make your dreams come true!
