Today we’d like to introduce you to Janet Garcia
Hi Janet, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I always wanted to help people. I started my nursing career as a CNA in 2015. While working as a nursing assistant I was earning my bachelors of science in nursing at Regis University. I graduated with my BSN in 2018 and became a Registered Nurse. I was working at a level one trauma center where I worked in different specialities including ICU, ED, medical surgical, telemetry, pediatrics and GI for 5 years. At this time, I started to dip my toes into aesthetic and regenerative medicine. I worked in IV infusion centers and different med spas. This is when I found my true passion. I fell in love with making people feel their best inside and out. I am a true believer of when you look good, you feel good and then do good. I expanded my education and knowledge and knew I wanted more autonomy in my practice. I wanted to give back to community as much as I can, so I went back to Regis University and earned my Masters of science in nursing and graduated in 2022. While going through clinicals, I was 9 months pregnant and realized that being a provider in a “regular” setting would not give me the flexibility of being the best nurse practitioner to my patients and also being the best mother to my son or the best wife to my husband. This is when the seed was planted for opening my own practice. As a nurse practitioner, I have worked in primary care, urgent care and specialized in hormone therapy while continuing to grow as an aesthetic provider.
Garcia Aesthetics was born on November 1, 2023. I finally have full autonomy of my practice, treating patients the way I think every person should be treated: ethically, respectfully and timely. As a Latina and an advanced provider, I am able to bridge the gap in my community to help people age gracefully by providing quality care in their language, within their budget and from someone who understands their culture. I have a great amount of experience and knowledge that helps me treat my patients as a whole.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been easy. As a young latina female a lot of people doubted my capabilities.
Nursing school is hard, fast paced and has a lot of pressure. But the biggest challenge as a first generation student that I wasn’t prepared for was the culture shock. During nursing school I was 1 of 4 hispanic students in my cohort. During my nurse practitioner program I was the only hispanic student in my graduating class, and 1 of 6 students under the age of 30. It felt like the odds were against me. I pushed through school, graduated, passed board licensure’s and absolutely fell in love with nursing. I love making a difference in my patients lives. I have so many stories both good and bad. I have had the privilege of caring for patients that I will never forget.
My true passion is in regenerative and aesthetic medicine. Working with hormones, peptides, exesomes, various supplements and treatments to get you feeling your best and looking your best is my true calling.
Once Garcia Aesthetics was born, I have encountered a new world entirely. As a new business owner, it has been overwhelming to learn about practice management in a way I never had to before. There is always a list of things needing to be done and I always have fear of failing. Which is why I am very appreciative of all of my patients who are able to budget me into their expenses and trust me with their health, their goals and their face and bodies.
It’s true, I am a business woman and a medical professional, but most importantly I am a mother and a wife. I have everything I’ve worked so hard for, but it doesn’t come at a low cost. There is a great amount of guilt associated with it. If I schedule an entire week, I am a great owner, but a bad mom. If I work late nights I am a great provider, but a bad wife. Having a perfect work life balance seems to be unachievable. It’s not easy, and it takes a lot of planning, and a solid support team to make this dream work. Yes, there are challenging days and sometimes weeks, but the stress and sleepless nights are definitely worth it.
We’ve been impressed with Garcia Aesthetics, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Garcia Aesthetics is a latina woman owned beauty and wellness clinic. We specialize in natural results. As your aesthetics provider, I believe it is my job to enhance your natural beauty. We do all things aesthetics: botox, filler, threads, micro needling, dermaplane and chemical peels. We offer different weight loss programs, lab work, hormone replacement treatments, joint injections, and hair restoration. We provide IV infusion therapies and vitamin injections with specialized cocktails tailored to fit your needs and wants.
I take a holistic approach to healthcare and look at the big picture. Every individual is different, I use labs as a guide to tailer your treatment plan specifically to you. I take pride in being a Latina woman being able to offer aesthetics and wellness treatments to my community. I am attempting to bridge the cap between aging and aging gracefully.
At Garcia Aesthetics, we only use FDA approved products and evidence based practice treatments. I invest greatly in my education and am up to date on new studies, treatments and techniques to give you the best outcome possible. I take great pride in prioritizing safety and being an ethical provider. I don’t sell you unnecessary treatments, and offer cost affective alternatives. I give you all the information you need to make an educated decision regarding your care. At the end of the day it is your face, your body, your health and your life, I’m here to help guide you through your journey.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Invest in your craft. In a world where social media runs our day to day life and there is a wealth of knowledge on it everyone believes they are an expert. You as the medical provider should be the expert. Invest in your education, hands on trainning and stay up to date on new studies, techniques and evidence based practice. There are a lot of providers and clinics who offer the same treatments, you stand out by the person you are. Take pride in the provider you become. At the end of the day, you just have to keep going.
