Today we’d like to introduce you to Empty Skyze
Hi Empty, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We met one another through a mutual friend at the time, whom Anthonym was in a hip hop duo with. One-Z was also in another duo with his friend and we all came together to form CPR, or Creative Process Records. The four of us meshed well in many ways, but we were all individually dealing with our own issues at the time. After a rocky year or so, we all went our separate ways. At that time, we were both neck deep in drugs and drinking, and Anthonym had just become a father so we were wading treacherous waters in our own lives. After another year or so, the two of us linked back up and began floating the idea of coming together and creating our own duo. A few months later, after much collaboration and brainstorming, we formed Empty Skyze and dropped our first single “Ivory Swords” produced by Yeyzo Beats. We got a great amount of positive feedback and shortly after sold almost 80 tickets to open up for King Iso of Strange Music, at the Roxy Theater. We even got our name up on the marquis! This was fuel on the fire. We then dropped our first visual and second single “Incendiary Devices” produced by Nobe InfGang off our debut Full Eclipse EP, shot and edited by RANSTEEZ DNVRDEMON. Since then we have dropped multiple remixes over some of our favorite hip hop instrumentals alongside many original singles of our own. We recently released our favorite single thus far, “Atlas’s Burden” produced by one of our favorite on the rise producers Johnny Slash, shot and edited by Heyy AyyOne. Currently we are preparing more remixes, singles, and a 7 track EP to be announced soon.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been smooth by any means. Like before, we have both seen high highs and low lows. These include, but not limited to, battling our own demons and addictions, financial struggles, personal relationship rollercoasters, and loss of friends and family in a plethora of ways. We work diligently to ensure we speak on these topics as little as possible in order to keep our focus on what lies ahead, rather than what has passed.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Anthonym specializes in hard, manual labor. He has been in the world of construction for over a decade including many trades such as landscaping, drywalling, demolition, painting, and now works in the field of custom structural skylights.
One-Z currently is a building service manage at the Colorado Convention Center performing tasks in preparation for national events including concerts, tattoo conventions, graduations, etc. Before this he worked in the medical marijuana field as it became a booming industry in the city of Denver and surrounding metro areas.
We are most proud of our overcoming of individual traumas growing up and conquering our personal addictions and afflictions. The fact that we both know what one another has been through and have used that as propulsion in our venture together is an unbreakable, unspoken bond that provides the foundation we are building upon. What sets us apart is the fact we can create our own sound and still stick to our roots and what brought us into the world of hip hop. We make hardcore, dark music unlike any other in the city.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One-Z – My favorite childhood memory was being there to witness my father absolutely crush percussion, alongside a handful of other instruments. My father was truly a musician at his core. These memories definitely brought about and birthed my own passion for the world of music.
Anthonym – My favorite childhood memory was getting my first skateboard with my father when I was about 7 or 8, I think. He got me the board from a store at the mall in Fort Collins, and all the safety gear to go with it. He then took me to the skatepark where I was frozen in place trying to drop in for the first time on a mini ramp. Pops wasn’t letting that slide, so he decided he would show me how, to prove it was nothing to be scared of. He dropped in and absolutely SLAMMED. This definitely didn’t convince me I could do it, but it is a core memory that I think of often and will forever cherish.
