Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Molinaro
Hi Melissa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey started with over 17 years of experience planning events for a large corporation. I genuinely loved the work, but I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit. I knew there was something more I could do to bring my passion for creating memorable experiences into a business of my own.
As my kids grew and started their own families, their dreams inspired me. My daughter wanted to be able to work from home so she could spend more time with her daughter, and my son had always dreamed of breaking into the event industry—something that can be incredibly difficult to do. I began to think about how I could create a legacy for my kids, something they could be proud of and eventually take over.
That’s when Slumberlux was born. It became the perfect blend of my love for crafting unique experiences, my desire to bring joy to children, and my goal of building a family-owned business. From spa parties to themed sleepovers, I’ve been able to create magical moments for families while building something meaningful for my own. Now, I get to do what I love while setting up my kids for success and creating a business that will last for generations.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting and growing Slumberlux has been an incredible journey, but it hasn’t always been smooth sailing. Like any entrepreneur, I’ve faced my fair share of challenges along the way.
One of the biggest struggles was learning how to balance my vision for the business with the practical realities of running it. I wanted every event to feel perfect and magical, but managing all the behind-the-scenes logistics—inventory, scheduling, marketing, and customer relations—was a steep learning curve.
Another challenge has been creating a family business while ensuring everyone feels supported. It’s been rewarding but also tough to navigate family dynamics and build something sustainable for the long term. We’ve worked through missteps, communication hurdles, and growing pains, but it’s also brought us closer together as a family.
Lastly, entering a competitive industry meant figuring out how to stand out and gain traction, especially when so much of our business comes from word of mouth. I’ve had to trust the process and focus on delivering incredible experiences to build a reputation.
It hasn’t been easy, but the lessons I’ve learned along the way have shaped me and the business in ways I never expected. I’m incredibly grateful for the journey, challenges and all, because it’s brought us to where we are today.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Slumberlux, we specialize in creating unforgettable, premium experiences for children and families. We’re known for our themed sleepovers, spa parties, and unique celebrations that turn any event into something magical. Every detail is thoughtfully curated, from Pinterest-worthy setups to Instagrammable moments, making our events a hit with parents and kids alike.
What I’m most proud of is the joy and memories we bring to families. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a child’s face light up when they walk into their dream sleepover or spa day. Knowing that we’re creating moments they’ll cherish forever means the world to me.
What sets us apart is our commitment to making everything seamless and stress-free for parents. We handle all the setup and tear-down, so families can enjoy the event without the hassle. Beyond that, our creativity and attention to detail ensure every experience feels unique and special.
But it’s not just about the events—it’s about the legacy we’re building. Slumberlux is a family-owned business, and I take great pride in knowing we’re creating something meaningful and lasting, not just for our clients but also for my own family. It’s more than a business; it’s a labor of love.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
There are so many incredible resources that help me stay organized, motivated, and grounded. One tool I couldn’t live without is HoneyBook, which automates much of the administrative side of my business. From managing contracts to client communication, it streamlines so many processes, giving me more time to focus on creating memorable events.
When it comes to personal growth, I’m deeply inspired by authors like Brené Brown, whose books on vulnerability and courage have transformed the way I approach leadership and relationships. Another favorite is John Maxwell, a faith-based author whose teachings on leadership and personal growth offer timeless wisdom rooted in integrity and purpose.
For spiritual and emotional encouragement, I turn to Lysa TerKeurst. Her faith-based self-improvement books, like It’s Not Supposed to Be This Way, provide perspective and encouragement when life doesn’t go as planned.
I also enjoy listening to podcasts like The Goal Digger Podcast by Jenna Kutcher, which is full of practical advice for entrepreneurs, and reading blogs by other small business owners for fresh ideas and community support. These tools and resources help me stay inspired and focused both in my work and personal life.
