Hidden Gems: Meet Marie Yarrington of WHERE FLOWERS BLOOM COUNSELING LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marie Yarrington

Hi Marie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey to becoming a mental health therapist with my own practice has been deeply personal and transformative. I experienced a high-risk pregnancy with my twin daughters, which led to a lengthy and emotional NICU stay. Those months were some of the hardest of my life—filled with fear, uncertainty, and moments of overwhelming hope.

During that time, I struggled to find the kind of support I truly needed, both as a mother navigating the NICU and as a person dealing with the emotional toll of it all. That experience lit a fire in me to help others who are walking similar paths.

After my daughters came home and began to thrive, I returned to my career as a therapist with a renewed sense of purpose. Eventually, I took the leap to start my own practice, focusing on supporting individuals and families navigating pregnancy, high-risk pregnancies, NICU journeys, postpartum, and all the emotional challenges that come with parenting in difficult circumstances.

It’s incredibly rewarding to be able to turn my personal experiences into a source of strength and support for others. I’m passionate about helping clients feel seen, validated, and empowered, no matter how complex or overwhelming their situations may seem.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road—far from it. Starting my own practice was a journey marked by both personal and professional challenges.

Even after my daughters came home, adjusting to life post-NICU has brought its own set of challenges, from managing their care to processing my own trauma. Professionally, I faced fears of starting something new—leaving the comfort of working for someone else and stepping into the unknown to create a practice from the ground up.

I also had to overcome my own imposter syndrome, wondering if I was truly ready to help others after my own experiences. But as I leaned into my passion and saw the impact of my work on clients, those doubts have been slowly giving way to more confidence.

The road wasn’t smooth, but the bumps along the way shaped me into the therapist I am today. They gave me a deeper empathy for my clients and a stronger drive to provide the kind of support I once needed.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?

I grew up dog-sledding! So random, but that is how I spent a lot of my winters growing up in Maine!
