Today we’d like to introduce you to L$ Bby
Hi L$, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m an independent artist born and raised here in Denver, CO. I was raised in a family of six siblings with an immigrant mother. Times were hard, but the one thing that always connected us was music. Many of my siblings write poetry or love to sing. I started with writing stories in elementary school. That turned into poetry in middle school. I endured many years of abuse in various ways, and needed an outlet. When I entered the foster care system, music was the only thing that kept me alive. From then on I started performing on small platforms in college. It took me until I was 22 years old to really push myself to find other creatives in the music business. Becoming pregnant lit a fire under my a*s to create and release. And not just the sad expression of poetry, but music that kept me alive in a new way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Nothing in this life comes easy, especially when it comes to your dreams. It took me going through many abusive relationships, loss, ego death, mental health issues, and lots of pain to create a stronger version of me. One of the hardest things I went through was dating another artist for years, who wouldn’t give my craft the same love and attention. He had a studio in his home and would refuse to record me or introduce me to the music game. In a way this made me feel like I wasn’t good enough. It took me to become pregnant and be a single mama from day one to stop letting anything hold me back. Im still working hard to earn a legacy in this music game, but I have no doubt I’ll get there!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My name is L$ BBY and I am an independent artist from Denver, CO. I specialize in rap, pop, and alternative music. I’m most known for my song Pretty Girl Flex, which is also what I’m most proud of. It was one of the third songs I had made and I was in my most depressive state. The song is all about self-love and women empowerment. When you feel like shit you gotta remember YOU ARE THE SHIT! I’m also proud of all my hard work as an artist. I released four music videos in 2024 and am now working on releasing my EP in 2025. I continue to raise the bar high. What sets me apart from others is that through all the trials and tribulations, I have risen & persevered every single time. I graduated college with my masters degree at the age of 21. Now I am in the process of buying a home for my son and I. I’m doing a lot of this by myself, even when the odds were against me.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t know about luck but I’ll say I’m blessed. I was born into abuse, poverty, substance use and so much more. I went into foster care at age 11 and aged out at 18. The foster care statistics show someone in my shoes would have multiple children, be a single parent, be a drug user, homeless, not finished high school – I mean foster care youth complete college nationally at a 2% rate. And the odds are worse with the more marginalized identities you hold. I do not have a family support system here in the U.S., so I’m already at a disadvantage for people sharing my music and showing up to my shows. But when I look at my song Pretty Girl Flex and see it has 29k views on YouTube, none of this matters. It reminds me I’m a boss! And I can do anything I set my mind too. My son and I will forever be blessed, protected and safe. I just want to make my son proud.
