Today we’d like to introduce you to Tim Zimmerman
Hi Tim, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Just a Colorado boy trying to make it through this thing called life! Born and raised in Loveland, CO and what seemed to be a pretty “normal” life. Whatever normal is… Grew up playing sports and surrounded by friends & family trying to figure out who I am as a person and what I want to do with my life. Trying to figure out who I truly am was always the hardest part… and still is! Especially growing up in a very religious household, it doesn’t always allow you the freedom to fully find, explore, & express yourself. Like fighting the internal battle of your sexual orientation and if you belong in this world… so by default, you just go with the flow of what your environment is.
Growing up I’ve always been drawn to art whether it be paintings, blown glass, sculptures, but the tattoo world always intrigued me the most. Getting off school and watching Miami Ink for hours on the couch was my ideal day! That’s definitely one thing I’m grateful for is my family and I can always share passion about tattoo art. I got my first tattoo for my 18th birthday present from my parents! The downside of me & art, I’m horrible at creating art and don’t think I have an artistic creative mind. So I stuck with what I was good at, business. Took business classes at school and eventually got a college degree in Hospitality Business.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There’s no such thing as a smooth road in life. However, there are definitely factors that don’t help! I don’t want to bring up religion too much but it definitely plays a big factor in the struggles of my life growing up. I always knew something was a little different about me. All this talk about only men with women and I’m over here attracted to daddies! So of course like a lot of others, I played that heterosexual role and even went to Liberty University (big Christian college) which is now actually a funny story. I got kicked out during my 2nd year there for partying but the funny part is, is that was the same time as the whole Jerry Falwell Jr. and Miami boy scandal. Oh the hypocrisy! In 2016, I put my mental health first and came out about my sexual orientation. Since then I’ve lost some friends & family but have gained some amazing chosen family and have been learning more about the person I am and what I want to do. Being a gay man in this world is the farthest thing from easy. We’ve come a long way from how it was but with how the future is looming, it’s getting scary again…
Fast forward to 2024 I decided to combine my passion for art and my knowledge of business admin work to create, Zim Management, LLC. An art management business designed to give artists more free time to be the creators they want to be without worrying about some of the business aspects of being an artist. Creating a business brings its own obstacles and struggles. Trying to get your brand out there to the right target, financially trying to build a brand without going broke, & of course the typical haters you’ll get when you do literally anything these days.
So life is always going to be a bumpy road with obstacles to overcome but that just makes me even stronger and more passionate about my goals!
We’ve been impressed with Zim Management, LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Zim Management is for all artists worldwide! Whether you’re a painter, craftsman, glass blower, tattoo artist, or whatever art you make, Zim Mgmt is here to help. The whole concept behind Zim Mgmt is primarily broken up into two goals:
1. Being a full time artist is a lot of work! You have the part of being the artist & creating the art but then you also have all the administrative aspects of running a business. So we’re working with those artists on the admin services needed to ultimately give back some valuable time to be a parent, a friend, a partner without the stress that your emails aren’t getting answered, etc. Currently primarily specializing in the tattoo industry handling things from managing an artists bookings to planning events for shops.
2. The art industry is competitive! You could be a spectacular artist but just getting your art seen can be a whole task in itself. Sometimes something just as simple as someone resharing your work can get it on a different set of eyes that can lead to possible income! One of the services Zim Mgmt offers is the event travel & art consignment service. We help get your work more exposure by traveling to different art conventions throughout the year setting up a vendor booth to promote and sell your artwork! Paintings, prints, apparel, etc. Even something as simple as your business cards can be set up at the vendor booths to help get your name out there more.
We’re always open to finding new ways to help so if you’re in need of some specific assistance, let’s see how Zim Management can help!
What should you know about my brand? Zim Mgmt is a LGBTQ+ owned & operated business that supports pro-choice, trans & drag queens, women’s rights & all people of every race!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Unfortunately times are tough for the art industry right now because not a lot of people have that additional income to not spend on the necessities like groceries and rent which takes up most peoples whole income these days! But, everything comes in waves so we keep on grinding and supporting each other any way we can. I know the art industry is super competitive so that’s where Zim Mgmt is here to help and support you as an artist and help your artwork get seen!
Support your friends and local small businesses!
An ultimate future goal for Zim Mgmt is to have a store front art gallery to have all kinds and sizes of artwork to feature all day every day for people to come check out.
