My journey into event planning began with my passion for creating meaningful experiences and my knack for organization. I’ve always been drawn to art history, architecture, and design, which inspire my creative process and attention to detail. Whether planning family celebrations or curating memorable events for friends, I loved transforming spaces and crafting unique experiences.

Over time, my passion turned into a business. After years of word-of-mouth referrals and successfully creating bespoke weddings and events, I officially launched my company, Sugar Willow Events, in 2017. One of my specialties became crafting tented private estate weddings, where I could combine my love for design, logistics, and personalized details to deliver unforgettable experiences.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Running a business while raising children has been one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced, made even more difficult by the personal journey of losing my husband to terminal cancer. Navigating his illness, treatment, and eventual passing while managing my business was an emotional and logistical challenge I never expected. During that time, I had to find strength not only for myself but also for my children, all while ensuring I continued to support my clients and deliver the exceptional experiences they trusted me to create. Balancing family and business often felt overwhelming, but I leaned on my team, prioritized what truly mattered, and found resilience in the love I had for both my family and my work.

Another challenge I’ve faced in my career is planning weddings on private residences and estates. While these spaces can create some of the most stunning and intimate settings, they come with their own set of complexities. Unlike traditional venues, private properties often lack the infrastructure needed for a large-scale event. You’re essentially building a venue from the ground up—bringing in everything from tents, lighting, and flooring to power, restrooms, catering setups, and transportation logistics. On top of that, you have to be mindful of the property itself, respecting the land, landscaping, and structures while ensuring your setup doesn’t cause any damage. There’s also the challenge of complying with local regulations, permits, and noise ordinances, which can vary widely depending on the location.

It’s a delicate balance of creating a seamless and magical experience for the couple while honoring the property owner’s trust and preserving the space’s integrity. While these events demand extra time, attention to detail, and creative problem-solving, they’re some of the most rewarding to see come to life.
