Check Out Natalie Kerr’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie Kerr

Hi Natalie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My photography journey began in 2013, with a simple DLSR camera and a middle schooler’s eye for good images. I took pictures of everything back then — decorations found throughout the house, my bored, half-asleep cat, plants in the backyard, a fairly average sunset. None of those images are technically strong, but they do tell a story about what I paid attention too when I was young, and how I was forming a new hobby that would eventually become my passion and career.

And that’s what I still do today: Use the camera to tell stories. Of people and their families, companies and their mission, people who are getting engaged or just had their first baby, or a small-business owner hustling to get their brilliant idea off the ground. It’s my biggest honor and joy to get to be a part of those moments.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not and will probably never be a smooth road! There are bumps all the time, some are small hiccups that just need some minor tweaking, while others are big learning moments that I remember for years down the line. But the most important thing is that we keep traveling down that path regardless of the struggles. We may have to take unexpected detours or deal with set backs and the occasional flat tire, but by the time we reach our destination, we’ve changed in unimaginable ways from who we are and what we knew when we set out. I try my best to appreciate the mistakes for what they teach me, and know that I’m growing a thicker skin and wiser mind all the while.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a lifestyle, documentary and editorial portrait photographer who specializes in environmental and storytelling photography. I’ve spent many years as a photojournalist, honing my eye for the decisive moments that allow images to tell a story all on their own. In my documentary work, those stories revolve around our lives and the people who mean the most to us, whether that’s family, your other half, your pet or your cherished friends. Documentary portraits are especially beautiful in both the process and the final product, because there’s no stiff posing or polishing ourselves to perfection for the camera. We let the moment flow naturally, and the photos are entirely one-of-a-kind, just like you.

For editorial and lifestyle portrait photography, you and I have a vision that we are going to bring to life! I often work with couples, families and brands during key moments to celebrate their milestones. I specialize in editorial engagement photoshoots that take it all the way back to a couple’s first date, where we recreate a scene or experience and make images that tell their couple story. For brands and businesses, editorial work is all about creating images that capture client’s attention from the jump, drawing them in, not just to the products, but to the person and experience behind it.
