Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Green
Hi Jason, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m the guy who would love walking around with his theme music! I’ve always had a love and affinity for people, music, art, and making a positive impact in the world. Music, entertainment, and getting to know people were my jams for as long as I can remember. My mother used to sing all of the time and loved entertaining people. My father who was a quiet man introduced me to music, sound and solidute. He would play records any time he was home when I was younger. But together, you could say, I was raised to do what I do for a living.
As I grew older, I continued to dance and sing and felt music was in my blood. Always skipping to a beat. School dances were my thing, and in high school, I would always say if a party wasn’t hittin’, it probably was missing music. I gained energy by being involved in extracurricular activities and volunteering. I had the pleasure of being class president, and I formed a hip-hop club in high school, choreographing the routines, amongst other interests and hobbies.
I was a first generation college student and was honored to been awarded a full ride to Colorado State University. My greatest accomplishment aside from graduationg was being elected the first person of color to be student body president. But I still taught hip-hop as well and it’s safe to say that my friends knew the role that music played in my life.
After I graduated, I had an opportunity to live in Prague, Czech Republic and that experience is where I really became interested in DJing and entreprenuership. I helped a buddy start a Pub Crawl, taught English and experience as music live music as I could.
Fast forward a few years, my wife and I were at a wedding showcase searching for a DJ for our own wedding and ran into a buddy from college who owned a DJ company. He thought I would be an awesome fit, so not only did we hire them to DJ our wedding, it jump started my DJ career. My wife Rebecca encouraged me to finally turn a passion of mine into a career.
10 years later, I have to say I love what I do for a living. I DJ, teach hip hop to kids, am a benefit auctioneer and an ordained officiant. I’m grateful to be where I am at in life!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s not been the smoothest road, but life wouldn’t be any fun without curve balls and a little adventure, right? I know everyone goes through their share of life’s challenges, but I would be remiss if I didn’t feel like I continue to get dealt a lot of challenges. My Mom Diana who is my rock and the person who really has shaped me into the man I am today had a major stroke over a decade ago. She never fully recovered and at times is still devastating to think. But she is one of my heroes and someone I admire for continuing to endure the day to day living life as a disabled stroke survivor and a huge inspiration for me.
One of the most life-changing and pivotal experiences I’ve ever encountered was losing my father after a six-week cancer diagnosis a few weeks before my second daughter was born just before COVID. 2020 will be known as one of the most tested years in our history, but for me personally losing my father right before, being laid off, while having a newborn stood the test of times. My company is named as an ode to my father Gregory. My middle name is Gregory and I go by Jason Gregory professionally. Sometimes I just have to sit and take a breath and remind myself that I’m still standing and pursing my dreams when I definitely wanted to give up.
But I try my best to dig deep, do the work, and believe that overcoming adversity makes you stronger, more solid and grateful for everything that you have.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I would say that I’m an artist and musician. I have a knack for creating impactful experiences people won’t soon forget. Music connects people from all walks of life. As a DJ, you bring people together through music and make them feel a certain way. As a dance instructor, you help people move their bodies to the music they feel
It’s tough to work in events and entertainment. And as a solo act can be a bit lonley. It’s easy to want to give up, but I’m proud to keep striving and have built a pretty successful business. What brings a lot of joy is what my daughters think of me. They see my impact and think I have one of the coolest jobs in the world!
My ability to connect with people is something that has always set me apart from others and I really care about all of my clients and those around me.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I wish luck has played a role in my life and business, but honestly life has ebed and flowed so much it’s hard for me to really trust in luck, good or bad.
