Community Highlights: Meet Alyssa Cavanaugh of AlyCav Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Cavanaugh.

Hi Alyssa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve built my photography business with just a 35mm lens and determination. Don’t ever let anyone tell you that success depends on the gear you use!

I do photography alongside my full-time gigs. I kept talking about my interest in pursuing it as a career, and eventually opportunities started flowing my way. I said yes to everything that offered me an opportunity to learn, even if I wasn’t exactly excited to shoot it. It was a fast-track way of learning my working style as a photographer, and even more ins and outs of my camera. The more I said yes, the more my confidence and portfolio grew.

I love capturing moments that mean the world for people. From families and brands, to music and entertainment shows.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest obstacle has always been myself. Especially as a 20-something still learning who she wants to be in this world. The bigger the dream gets, the louder the fears. Getting sucked into fear instead of focusing on action items is the most common hurdle for me, but every challenge has offered such valuable growth. Being an entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart! It requires just as much faith as perseverance and grit.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I run AlyCav Photography, based in Boulder, Colorado. I offer a variety of services from family photoshoots to entertainment events and brand photography.

I’m most proud of my ability to help my clients feel calm and grounded when they work with me. Approaching my work in this way allows me to fine tune into my client’s needs, and deliver photos that capture their authentic radiance.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something you might not know? I’m currently nerd-ing out about vocal lessons and healing the voice from an energetic and emotional standpoint. In addition to photography, I love to sing and write!
