Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Perks.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Anna. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In the fall of 2018, I walked past a beautiful 1920’s house in my neighborhood being demolished. I asked the man on the bulldozer what was happening to the house, and he told me it was all going to the landfill, including the working appliances inside. I felt frustrated and knew that we could do better in Denver. After that conversation, I began to research, interview, and learn more about the Denver construction and demolition market. After months of investigation, I learned that Denver was a deconstruction desert; no major groups offered deconstruction as their primary service. So, in April 2019, I launched Perks Deconstruction in order to bring a financially viable and environmentally sound solution to the market.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
One of the biggest struggles is starting a company while still working a 9-5 to pay the bills. There’s always a lot to do, and it’s hard to get it all done.
Please tell us about Perks Deconstruction.
Perks Deconstruction offers partial to full deconstruction services for residential and commercial buildings. A partial deconstruction project means that we disassemble and remove the easiest and most valuable items out of a building (ex: doors, cabinets, and light fixtures). For a full deconstruction project, we will take the building apart in the reverse order that it was built in order to salvage and donate the materials to non-profits. We aim to divert at least 85% of the building materials from the landfill. We get the material appraised by a 3rd party appraisal group, and then the building owner is able to receive tax credit incentives for his/her donation. Providing awareness about the tax benefits and helping owners understand their options sets us apart in the Denver market.
I’m extremely proud that we offer an option for owners that allows them to waste less and save money.
