Hidden Gems: Meet Cheyenne Skeen of Cheyenne Baking Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheyenne Skeen

Hi Cheyenne, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello! My name is Cheyenne and I have always had a huge passion for baking. Starting at a young age, I would bake for fun for my family and friends and always wanted to learn how to make the yummiest and prettiest treats. After I became a single mom, I really needed something to keep my mind busy and something to make me happy. I watched countless tutorials, and practiced for a long time. A local farmers market started in my community, so I decided I was going to sell some of my favorite desserts. It was a huge success and for the past 3 years, I have gotten to work with so many local small businesses and make so many special treats for so many different occasions. Baking has a way of bringing so much calmness and happiness to me and I am so greatful for the community I have to support me and everyone I have met along the way!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like anything, I have deffinitly had to overcome many obstacles. It is incredibly hard trying to raise two children, along with a full time job and some days it is very hard to find the time and energy to bake. I have had moments where I felt burnt out, and in those situations, I give myself some time to breath, take a break, and start again when I find motivation or when It feels less like a “I have to” and more like an “I’m excited to”. I have learned my limits of orders I can take before I become too stressed and have much more success when I give myself a break every now and then.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Cheyenne Baking Co. ?
I specialize in a wide variety of treats! This varies from macarons, cakepops, single tiered cakes, cupcakes and more! I have dessert table options that are very popular for weddings, baby showers, etc! I think what sets me apart is the small community I live in. People drive over an hour to buy treats from me, and it truly is such an honor. I try to keep my prices very reasonable, because I beleive everyone should be able to have treats for their party. I am very proud of the vintage heart cakes that have been very popular and always sticking true to myself and what I feel comfortable baking!

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
I do think it is so important to take risks! I don’t consider myself a risk taker, but the few times I have stepped out of the box, I have never regretted it. I am a pretty introverted person and if I never would of had the courage to start selling my goodies at a farmers market, I would not be where I am today. You will always miss 100% of the risks you didn’t take!
