Rising Stars: Meet Abby Reed of Broomfield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Abby Reed

Hi Abby, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started beauty school a couple of months after I graduated from high school. From there I worked at a salon for 4 years in Superior until it closed. After that, I moved to a different salon in Broomfield and worked there for 4 years. I always knew that working for myself was a goal I was striving towards and after the COVID shutdown, I decided to finally take the plunge, and Endtanglement Salon was born. I’ve been in my little studio in Broomfield for a little over 4 years and I couldn’t be happier!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anyone who works in the beauty industry knows, it’s never a smooth road! Between salons closing, COVID shutdowns, and also just working in a salon in general, working with clients is probably the easiest part! For me, working with other stylists with lots of different personalities has been trickier to navigate.

When I first started as a stylist I was 19 years old and painfully shy. Working in the industry isn’t for the weak, I had to find my place in a world where my coworkers were just as talented and definitely more confident than me. I tended to get lost in the shuffle of all that and was often overlooked. I wouldn’t say I’m a lone wolf necessarily, but I have found that I’m perfectly happy working alone.

My first boss told me that there is a client out there for every stylist; even the quiet ones. In all my years of doing hair, I can happily say I’ve found my people and they are all so wonderful.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I would say my work is reflective of where we live; easygoing, and effortlessly beautiful. I do mostly lived-in colors with not a lot of maintenance, creative but precise cuts, and soft, natural styles.

I love the everyday bread and butter, cuts and colors in the salon but I especially love styling hair and doing weddings too! It’s a way to show my creativity and to also challenge myself. I love to watch other artists style wedding hair and ask how did they do that… I wonder if I can do that. It’s so fun.

What are your plans for the future?
The next step and a massive dream for me would be to start a mobile wedding truck/trailer! Nothing is set in motion quite yet, but it is most definitely a dream I’d like to see come true in the next 5ish years.
