Today we’d like to introduce you to Chad Chisholm
Hi Chad, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began commercial photography in 2005. From there, I shot events in and around Denver for several organizations, venues, companies and magazines. In 2014 I opened C2 Studios in Denver, which was a commercial photography production studio that was home to a plethora of commercial photo shoots (captured by myself and other production companies) with clients such as Starbucks, Red Robin, Waterpik, Taco Johns, Husky, ion TV, Cherry Mash and more. Closed in 2022, C2 Studios was an incredible resource for the commercial production community and I’m proud of the work that was completed there. Since then, I’ve focused my photographic work on location for my clients; I’m the first photographer on retainer with the historic Broadmoor Hotel, my company is Hyatt and Hilton brand-approved, and we work with a variety of hospitality clients across the globe. A member of NGLCC and SATW, my work literally takes me around the planet, experiencing and sharing the beauty, wonder and good in the world. Recently, I have been working with Hilary Hadden as a marketing manager and art director. Our focus is on the B2B clientele, helping businesses book more business themselves by showcasing their unique and authentic offerings. It’s an exciting new chapter!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I started my first business when I was nine years old, with the encouragement of my entrepreneurial mother, who was a CEO of a welding supply company. I always try to “fail forward,” brush myself off, learn from the experience, and become a better and better businessperson. The road has not always been smooth but I never expected it to be. I prepare for the hard times, enjoy the good times, and learn through every opportunity. I continue to employ business coaches and professionals to better myself and my business; I think it is important to accept you cannot “do it all” and that the business is stronger with the more quality partners you bring together.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a commercial photographer first and foremost–it’s been my full time job for twenty years this year. I pride myself on being able to connect with lifestyle model talent in a commercial setting, capturing the most authentic moments and making the talent feel at ease. I’m also very expedient, my work on set and professional retouching turnaround is some of the quickest in the industry, which centers around deadlines and efficiency. Having been child talent myself from age 7-16, I know what it’s like to be in front of the lens and bring that to set for every single project, making sure every person on set feels comfortable and in a professional environment. I’m thrilled to work with teams of creatives and clients who enjoy capturing these authentic, colorful moments!
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
My love for glass artwork; I’ve been attending Dale Chihuly’s Pilchuck Glass School since 2009 and absolutely love every aspect of that medium and the artists. From my brand standpoint: people may not know the breadth of services we offer: from video and drone capabilities, hair, makeup and wardrobe stylists, food stylists, prop masters, set stylists, and graphic design artists that are all in the cannon of production offerings.
