Today we’d like to introduce you to Brody Min.
Hi Brody, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello! My name is Brody, I go under the alias of Crokomoko. I am a sound healer and I specialize in the unique instrument called the tongue drum. I have been playing this instrument for around 2 years. It helps me relax in a crazy world and hopefully it will do so for you as well. I enjoy playing outdoors and playing for animals when I am not being hired to do work for a venue. I want to be remembered as a musician but also a person who helped people relax and sleep with my music.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There’s definitely been some struggled along the way. From venues not getting a good amount of attendance to weather delays and more. I think the main one is more inward facing and that is the self doubt that is always looming. I upload, I delete, I upload again. It’s this never ending process of perfection and not really appreciating music for being music and having human error. Being too hard on myself has had me take down tracks, stop events, and lose a lot of hope for music and the career ahead of me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What I do now instead of playing conventional venues is really just reaching out to yoga studios, rehab centers, senior centers, and more to help provide background music for a certain event, lunch service, etc.
I feel like what sets me apart from others is my willingness to get into other spaces that usually don’t have a lot of tongue drum sounds. I’ve performed at venues that are more hardcore/punk centric and I’ve found that can be the best way to find friends to get on a bill with. But on the flip side, it’s nice having the security that the people at a lunch service won’t be having locked eyes on you. I like being in the background, it’s nice.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Get out there! Really build a portfolio as early as you can. Don’t wait for the perfect client or anything like that. Just work your way up the ladder by building a strong client base from all sorts of small businesses locally. Try not to reach worldwide, rather reach around you. Inward going out. Not outward coming in.
