Today we’d like to introduce you to Malia Seda.
Hi Malia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Yoga Center of Denver was established in 2001 as an Iyengar Yoga Studio but has expanded over time to offer a broader range of styles including Ashtanga, Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, Acro, Qi Gong, Pre & Postnatal classes plus Aerial Yoga for kids and adults while maintaining Iyengar as the foundation. We have 4 massage rooms and offer various spa services as well as being a premier location for conscious events and workshops that nurture the soul of our community. We have a talented pool of Yoga Teacher Trainers and offer 200 & 300 hour certifications along with hosting our annual 3 day long immersion with the legendary Shiva Rea! Through the years we have had a few shifts in ownership but the original founders Gary & Donita are still teaching Iyengar at the studio and our newest transition of ownership considers this venture a lifelong passion. We won “Best Yoga Studio” at the Westword’s “Best of Mile High” Awards in 2024 & 2025!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Business is never “smooth” but we have always had a commitment to inclusivity and community which has kept our spirits strong through the difficult times. As many studios and gyms faced closing their doors during Covid, we were able to remain open due to a shift in ownership. The down time allowed the new owners to remodel the studio and create new pathways. Many of our long time regulars faced challenges with studio changes and construction but remained a huge part of our loyal community. The new owners were also blessed with a new baby during this time which restricted their capacity. After 4 years of pivots and adjustments, the stepping stones have been set in place and we look forward to welcoming a new era of leadership!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an aerialist, yoga teacher and DJ. I’ve organized and hosted hundreds of events over the years including a block party for Pride 2023 and building several theme camps at Burning Man and other local festivals. My “real job” is owning a property management company which is challenging yet rewarding. I am most proud of raising 2 amazing boys who are now grown up. Acquiring the Yoga Center of Denver is my biggest accomplishment to date and I look forward to seeing where life takes me next!
How do you define success?
Success is learning how to fail, fail faster and fail gracefully while remembering to get back up and try again.
