Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer M Thompson.
Hi Jennifer M, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Looking back on my life, I can pinpoint the time that natural medicine became an important part of everything I do. I have always had a curious streak. I remember experimenting with many things as a young and virile person. Of course I drank too much at high school parties, huddled around a large fire somewhere down a long dirt road. It wasn’t long after high school that after such a night of debauchery I woke up feeling off. Really off. The world was spinning and I could barely make it to the bathroom. I felt nauseous and the vertigo made it so that I had to crawl rather than walk. I managed to make it to the sink and drink enough water to feel a bit less dehydrated. I figured that if I went back to bed, I would feel right as rain when I woke up again. As it went though, I did not feel right at all when I woke from that nap. I think I felt even worse. This went on for days and then weeks. I still lived at home at the time. My mother worked so much I hardly saw her. My brother after a few weeks of not seeing me was finally concerned. I told him what I had done and how I was not able to walk or eat. He made me some soup that I could keep down but I still had these problems, I could only crawl to drink water from the sink, I could only walk if I had help. I had lost about 40 pounds at this time. I visited a doctors office with help from my mom and brother and the doctor was so rude. He didn’t care that I was suffering and insisted it was my own fault and that nothing could be done for me. It wasn’t until a close friend came by and found me in this state that any of my conditions changed. He told me that he was going to drive me to Boulder to see his natural doctor. This was a 3 hour drive at the time and I was more than apprehensive. After discussing my symptoms with Ron he did several things to relive my suffering. He used Chiropractic, Acupuncture and herbs. I only had the one treatment with him. My friend drove us home and got me back to my room so that I could sleep. When I woke up the next day, I couldn’t believe it! My dizziness and nausea were gone! I thought, what in the world was this magic! I still remember how powerful it was to this day 30 years later. This is what inspired me to learn everything I could about holistic medicine. I now have been a practicing and licensed acupuncturist for 15 years. I am always learning and growing my knowledge about medicine and am so happy that I now have a chance to help those that have struggled in their own lives.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I remember the day I wanted to become and Chinese Medicine Practitioner. I boldly walked into the acupuncture school office and told them I would like to take classes. They asked what my undergraduate degree was. I almost started crying in the office. I had not even thought about getting a degree at this point in my life. So I picked myself up and went back home to plan an undergraduate degree. I didn’t get to start acupuncture school until 3 years later.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I absolutely love my job. I am an Acupuncturist, Herbalist, Functional Medicine Practitioner, Energy Healer and Shaman. I studied Chinese Medicine in Boulder CO and in Harbin China. Each person that I treat has a tailored experience based on their unique needs. I use a variety of tools and techniques to help individuals both physically and energetically. I believe that healing can occur at deeper levels with this mind, body and soul healing approach.
I make a number of natural herbal products, lotions, lotion bars, soaps, balms and salves, teas, germ sprays, tinctures and dry hair shampoo powder to name a few. I also can create custom formulas for my clients. I use a large apothecary filled with both Chinese and Western herbs. My favorite balms to make is what I call “Barbarian Balm” . It is made with a deep red colored herb called zi cao. It helps to heal wounds, bruises and skin blemishes so quickly that it is almost unbelievable!
Who else deserves credit in your story?
There are a number of exceptional individuals that I have the pleasure of knowing on my journey. I am inspired and humbled by the knowledge and experience that my teachers and peers offered during my studies of Chinese Medicine at the Southwest Acupuncture College. I would like to also include a particular person who continues to impart a wealth of knowledge to many people. His name is Mark Anderson and he has been a mentor and educator for many years now. He works with a company called Standard Process and teaches many health care practitioners around the world. His work and research on holistic medicine is invaluable to the health care community as well as the world!
